The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity volleyball team celebrated senior night on Tuesday with a, 3-1, victory over the Tulia Lady Hornets at Wildcat Gym.
With the win, the Lady Cats improve to 1-2 in district play.
Nevaeh Lopez delivered a kill off of Kloe Chasco to open set one and Jazzlyn Del Torro sent a kill sailing out of bounds on the next play to make the score, 20. London Taylor delivered a kill in front of of Mayci Del Torro, but the next serve from Lopez fell short of the net, making the score, 3-1.
Taylor recovered the serve for Littlefield with a kill off of Marleigh Russell and Kami Silveira served up back-to-back aces, as Tulia took a time out to talk things over. Out of the break, Faith Adams delivered a kill for Tulia, but the next serve from Jazzlyn Del Torro fell short of the net, extending the lead to, 7-2.
Taylor served up an ace off of Mayci Del Torro, but Faith Balderas had a hit land out of bounds on the sideline, making the score, 8-3. Kealee Bussey had a tip blocked by Michelle Mott for a kill and Maggie McNeese was blocked by Adams for a kill, trimming the lead to, 8-5. Madison Williams would answer for Littlefield with a kill off of the block attempt by Mott, and Balderas served up an ace to push their lead to, 105.
Lopez and Russell each sent a hit sailing out of bounds and Bryndle Ray and Mayci DelTorro each sent serves that were off the mark, making the score, 12-7. Williams sent a serve short of the net and on the next play, Mattie Seymore sent a hit sailing out of bounds, cutting the lead to, 12-9.
Littlefield went on a fivepoint rally, as Seymore delivered a kill inside of the back boundary line, forcing Tulia to take a time out, trailing, 17-9. Out of the break, Jazzlyn Del Torro was called for being on the net, but Littlefield could not capitalize, as Lopez sent a hit into the net, making the score, 18-10. Russell sent a hit short of the net for Tulia, but Tulia would bounce back and score back-to-back points, before Littlefield regained the serve.
Mott dropped a tip short of the net and Williams followed it up with a kill off of Russell, pushing their lead to, 22-12.Adams sent a kill past Balderas, but McNeese responded with a kill that was tipped out of bounds byAdams, stretching the lead to, 23-13. A hit from Nayliyah Williams fell short of the net and a hit by Mayci Del Torro was to close to the net for Mott to handle, as Littlefield took set one, 2513.
McNeese was blocked by Jazzlyn Del Torrro for a kill to open set two and a dig by Taylor landed out of bounds to make the score, 0-2. Chasco served up an ace off of Balderas, but on the next play a tip from Nayliyah Williams landed out of bounds on the sideline to get the Lady Cats on the board, 1-3.
Silveira served up an ace past Mayci Del Torro and McNeese delivered a kill in the back corner to tie the set, 3-3. Silveira sent a serve sailing out of bounds and the next serve from Russell was not returned by Littlefield, making the score, 3-5. Chasco sent a kill attempt sailing out of bounds, but Gomez’s next serve fell short of the net, making the score, 46.
Jazzlyn Del Torro served up an ace in the back corner of the court and Littlefield sent a hit into the net on the next play, making the score, 4-8. McNeese answered with a kill in front of the block attempt from Adams and Lopez followed it up with a kill off of the block attempt from Mott, trimming the lead to, 6-8. Mott delivered a kill and on the next play, Lopez was blocked by Mott and the rebound hit was hit into the net by Williams, making the score, 6-10.
Littlefield took a time out to talk things over, and out of the break, Adams delivered a kill off of Badleras and a hit by Littlefield crossed the net outside of the foul pole, making the score, 6-12. Mott sent a kill sailing out of bounds for Tulia and she dropped a tip out of bounds on the sideline during the next play, trimming the lead to, 8-12.
Chasco delivered a kill off of Gomez, but Mott and Chasco miss-communicated sending a hit short of the net on the next play, giving the serve back to Littlefield.Aserve from Madison Williams fell short of the net, making the score, 914. Russell sent a kill sailing out of bounds and Lopez served up an ace off of Mariah Briones, cutting the lead to, 1114.
Nayliyah Williams sent a hit short of the net for Tulia and Seymore followed it up with a kill off of the block attempt by Chasco and Jazzlyn Del Torro, slicing the lead to, 13-14. Saldana was blocked by Russell for a kill, but Chasco sent a serve short of the net, making the score, 14-15. Silveira served up an ace off of Nayliyah Williams to tie the set, as Tulia took a time out to talk things over.
Out of the break, Chasco delivered a kill off of Brittani Wright and Russell and Gomez each sent a serve short of the net, pushing the score to, 1617. Mott delivered a kill past the block attempt from McNeese, but Littlefield answered with a kill to keep it a one-point game, 17-18.Aserve from Balderas landed out of bounds and a tip by Lopez on the next play was hit under the net by Mott, making the score, 18-19.
Ray had a serve land out of bounds for Littlefield, but Lopez responded with a tipp off of Nayliyah Williams for a kill, cutting the lead to, 19-20. Taylor delivered a kill off of Mott’s block attempt to tie the game and Mott sent a kill sailing out of bounds on the next play, making the score, 21-20, as Tulia took another time out.
Out of the break, a tip from Chasco was blocked by Lopez for a kill, stretching their lead to, 22-20. Saldana mistimed a hit off of the set from Ray, but Chasco sent a hit short of the net on the next play for Tulia, making the score, 23-21. Saldana sent a kill off of the block attempt by Russell, but the Lady Cats were called for four hits on the next play, making the score, 24-22.
Saldana sent a hit short of the net, but Russell was called for an illegal hit on the next play for Tulia, giving Littlefield the set, 25-23, putting them in front, 2-0.
Tulia bounced back to take set three, 13-25, cutting the lead to, 2-1, as they forced a fourth set.
Lopez sent a serve short of the net to begin set four, but Saldana responded with a kill in front of Mayci Del Torro, tying the set, 1-1. Taylor sent a tip into the net for Littlefield and she had a tip land out of bounds on the sideline on the next play, putting Tulia in front, 1-3.
Jazzlyn Del Torro sent a tip short of the net off of a long dig by Taylor and Madison Williams tied it up with a kill off of Mayci Del Torro on the next play, making the score, 3-3. Gomez’s next serve fell short of the net, and Jazzlyn Del Torro served up an ace off of Balderas, before a tip from Madison Williams was hit into the net by Mott, trimming the lead to, 4-5.
The teams went back-andforth for several plays, before McNeese delivered a kill off of the block attempt by Jazzlyn Del Torro, making the score, 10-10. Bussey sent a hit outside of the foul pole, butAdams sent a hit sailing out of bounds for Tulia on the next play, making the score, 11-11.
The teams continued to go back-and-forth until Taylor sent a kill off of Briones to push their lead to, 19-17. McNeese followed it up with a kill past Briones and Jazzlyn Del Torro was called for being on the net during the next play, making the score, 21-17.
Tulia took a time out and out of the break, Russell sent a hit out of bounds and Lopez followed it up with an ace off of Mayci Del Torro, making the score, 23-17. NayliyahWilliams had a tip blocked by McNeese for a kill, but Tulia would battle back and make it a two-point game, before Saldana tipped the net for a kill to take set four, 25-22, and the match, 3-1.
The Lady Cats were at home against Talkington on Saturday. Results were not available at press time. They will close out the first half of district play on Tuesday with a road game against Childress.
First set is scheduled for 6 p.m.
