The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity softball team throttled the Idalou Lady Cats on Tuesday, 21-1, in their first meeting in Littlefield.
With the win, the Lady Cats improve to 2-1 in district play.
Amaya McCanick pitched two innings for the Lady Cats, giving up two hits, two walks, while earning four strikeouts. Maggie McNeese pitched one inning, giving up one hit and one run, while earning one strike out.
McCanick got Harlee Garcia to strike out swinging to begin the first inning, but Megan Hall singled through the left side to give Idalou a base runner. McCanick would get Addyson Linker to strike out swinging for out number two. Hall stole second on a ball away from Abby Rodriguez behind the plate, before Alicia Negrete drew a walk to put runners on first and second with two outs for Idalou.
McCanick would get Mylee Estrada to hit a short fly ball to Bryndle Ray at shortstop to retire the side.
Ray got Littlefield going in the home-half of the first inning, as she ripped a stand-up triple down the third-base line. Sophia Mata hit a sacrifice grounder to shortstop and was thrown out at first, as Ray scored to put Littlefield in front, 10. Isaihla Garza singled to center field and McNeese followed it up with a single up the middle to put runners on first and second with one out.
McCanick laid down a bunt, reaching base on an error by Paytyn Stapp in the circle to load the bases, and Bri Aleman unloaded them with a three-RBI double to the left-field fence, pushing their lead to, 4-0. Rodriguez popped up to Negrete in foul territory at third base for out number two and Tailyn Gomez grounded out to shortstop to end the inning.
Stapp singled to right field to begin the second inning for Idalou, as Presli Graham came on as the courtesy runner for the pitcher. However, McCanick would bounce back in the circle, as she got Aubrey Davis and Hayden Srader both to strike out looking for two outs. Karley Winegeart was hit by a pitch and Garcia drew a walk to load the bases, but McCanick would get Hall to fly out to Mata on the warning track in center field to retire the side.
Peyton Galvan picked up where the Lady Cats left off offensively to begin the bottom of the second, as she had a fly ball fall behind Estrada at second base for a stand-up triple. Ray followed it up with an RBIdouble to left field and Mata drew a walk, before Garza was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
Maggie roped a two-RBI double to left-center field to stretch their lead to, 7-0, and Garza scored on a bad thrown to third by the catcher, making the score, 8-0, as McNeese advanced to third on the play. McCanick singled on an error by Linker at shortstop to drive in a run, making the score, 9-0.
Aleman was hit by a pitch and Rodriguez laid down a bunt that was fielded by Idalou, as they tried to go to third, but McCanick made it safely to load the bases for Littlefield. Gomez hit a sacrifice fly ball to right field for out number one, as McCanick tagged up and scored from third to push their lead to, 10-0.
Rodriguez stole second on a pitch, before Galvan was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Littlefield. Ray drew an RBI- walk and Rodriguez scored on a passed ball, stretching the lead to, 12-0. Mata kept the rally going with an RBIsingle to second base, beating the throw to first by Estrada, putting runners on the corners with the score extended to, 13-0.
Ray scored on a throw down to third that rolled into left field making the score, 14-0, as Mata went first-tothird on the play. Garza followed it up with an RBIsingle to left field, pushing their lead to, 15- 0, and McNeese laid down a swinging bunt, and reached base safely. McCanick drew a walk to load the bases for Littlefield, as Linker relieved Stapp in the circle for Idalou.
Aleman ripped a two-RBI double to the left- field fence, making the score, 170, and McCanick scored on a passed ball, as Aleman took third on the play, stretching the lead to, 18-0. Rodriguez drew a walk to put runners on the corners for Littlefield, and London Taylor singled on an error by Estrada at second base, allowing two runs to score on the overthrow to the plate. Taylor took second and ended up scoring on a bad throw to second from the catcher, extending their lead to, 21-0.
Janella Rodriguez struck out swinging for out number two, but Ray drew a walk to give the Lady Cats a base runner. She would steal second, before getting called for leaving early to end the inning.
In the top of the third, McNeese relieved McCanick in the circle, as Linker doubled down the left-field line to lead things off for Idalou. Negrete singled to right-center field to drive in a run, but she was canned at second by Mata, drying for extra bases; Ray was there for the tag for out number one, with the score, 21-1.
Estrada struck out swinging for out number two and Stapp grounded out to Ray at shortstop to end the game.
The Lady Cats were at Muleshoe on Saturday. Results were not available at press time. They will continue their season on Tuesday, at home against Roosevelt.
First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
