Week six of the Lamb County Leader-News Football Contest brings us just about to the halfway point in the season, as High School teams head into district play this week.
This week we had three contestants tie for the top spot this week, finishing with a mark of 17-3: Jan Smith, JR Herrell and Lonnie Neinast.
The tie-breaker this week was the combined score of the Raiders and Broncos, which was 52 points.
Jan Smith ended up taking first place with a guess of 59 points, while JR Herrell’s guess of 36 points edged out Lonnie Neinast’s guess of 35 points for second and third place, respectively.
In the High School Ranks, Littlefield dropped a heart-breaker on the road to Coahoma, 71-70, while Whiteface took down Springlake-Earth, 60-12, and Amherst blasted Boys Ranch, 6212. LCHS shutout Brownfield, 54-0, whileAbilene took down theAmarillo Sandies, 63-42, and Shallowater went on the road and took down Canadian, 49-27.
Monterey defeated Coronado, 42-12, while Wall blasted Idalou, 33-10, and Happy shutout McLean, 52-0. Kress went on the road and took down White Deer, 65-37.
In the college ranks, Pittsburgh took down North Carolina, 34-24, while Washington upset Michigan, 27-17, and Georgia Tech took down Duke, 24-14. Ohio State ran away from Iowa, 35-7, and Georgia handled business against Auburn, 31-13.
In the NFL, Game 16 was a free, due to having the wrong NY team listed to play the Vikings. The Bears defeated the Panthers, 36-10, while the Commanders blasted the Browns, 34-13, and the Giants took down the Seahawks 29-20. the Cowboys edged out the Steelers, 20-17.
Those who finished 16-4 this week were Dewayne Hayes, Donna Neinast, JC Orozco, Johnny Rosemond, Richard Orozco and Terrill Moorhead. 15-5 finishers this week were Brenda Herrell, Ivan Estrada, Larry Ashley, Nancy Smith and Tommy Cloninger, while those who finished 14-6 this week were David Neinast, James Hood, Martin Duran, Micky Orozco, Ronnie Martin and Stevy Smith.
Those who finished 13-7 this week were, Alma Castillo, Ed Dabrowski, Juan Garza, Robin Elliott and Teresa Dabrowski, while Charlie Smith and Maria Pinon each finished 12-8, and Sam Castillo finished 11-9. Jazmine Davis and Mark Grace each finished 10-10 this week.
In the overall standings, Lonnie Neinast and Brenda Herrell are tied for the top spot with 87 points, while Duran sits in second place with 86 points and Jan Smith and JR Herrell are tied for third with 85 points each. Donna Neinast and Estrada are tied for fourth with 84 points, while Rosemond and Richard Orozco are tied for fifth with 83 points.
Stevy Smith is in sixth with 82 points, while Micky Orozco and Martin are tied for seventh with 81 points, and JC Orozco and David Neinast are tied for eighth with 80 points. Moorhead and Ashley are tied for ninth with 78 points and rounding out the top 10 are Hayes andAlma Castillo, who each have 77 points.
