Jan Smith wins Week 4 Football Contest

Week four was a bounce back week for our contestants in the Lamb County Leader-News Football Contest with six contestants tying for the top spot this week with a mark of 16-4.

Those who tied for first place this week were Brenda Herrell, JR Herrell, Martin Duran, Lonnie Neinast, Sam Castillo and Jan Smith.

The tie-breaker this week was the combined score of Florida vs Mississippi State, which was 73 points. Taking first place by way of tiebreaker this week was Jan Smith, who guessed 63 points. Taking second place, also by way of tie-breaker, was JR Herrell, who guessed 56 points, and taking third place with a guess of 54 points, was Brenda Herrell.

In the High School Ranks, Littlefield got off to a slow start against Morton for their Homecoming game, but ended up running away with the contest, 60-14. Ropes posted their second consecutive shutout on the season, shelling Olton, 49-0, while Sudan took down Vega, 41-20, for a homecoming victory. Amherst defeated Dawson on Thursday, 30-0, while Anton took down Lefors at Silverton on Friday, 46-0. Canadian came back to win a shootout over Muleshoe, 74-67, while Idalou shutout Compass Academy, 63-0. Wall defeated Monahans, 27- 20, while Sweetwater took a victory over Estacado, 39-25, and Seminole bounced Lubbock-Cooper Liberty, 62-15. In the college ranks, Arkansas picked up a win at Auburn, 24-14, while Tennessee went into Norman and took down the Sooners, 25-15. Florida State picked up their first win of the season, taking down California, 14-9, while Texas Tech outlasted Arizona State, 30-22. Cincinnati shutout Houston, 34-0.

In the NFL, The Chiefs won in prime time Sunday night, 22-17, while the Panthers took down the Raiders, 36-22, and the Colts defeated the Bears, 21-16. The Packers handled the Titans, 30-14, and the Ravens held off a late comeback from the Cowboys, 28-25.

Those who finished 15-5 this week were Stevy Smith, Micky Orozco, Johnny Rosemond and Jazmine Davis, while those who finished 14-6 this week were Donna Neinast, JC Orozco, David Neinast, Mark Grace and Maria Pinon.

13-7 finishers this week were Richard Orozco, Ronnie Martin, Alma Castillo, Larry Ashley, Terrill Moorhead, Tommy Cloninger, Amanda Gonzales and Charlie Smith. Ivan Estrada, Robin Elliott, Juan Garza, Teresa Dabrowski and James Hood each finished 12-8 this week, while Dewayne Hayes, Ed Dabrowski and Martin Duran Jr each finished 11-9 and Nancy Smith rounded out the field this week finishing 8-12.

In the overall standings, we have a tie for the top spot this week, as Brenda Herrell and Martin Duran each have 56 points. They are followed by Lonnie Neinast and Stevy Smith in second place each with 55 points, while Jan Smith and Micky Orozco are tied for third with 54 points.

Jr Herrell and Estrada are tied for fourth place with 53 points, while Rosemond, Richard Orozco and Martin are tied for fifth with 52 points, and Donna Neinast and JC Orozco are tied for sixth with 52 points. David Neinast and Alma Castillo are tied for seventh with 50 points, while Sam Castillo, Davis, Ashley, Moorhead and Elliott are tied for eighth with 48 points.

Grace and Cloninger are tied for ninth with 47 points and Hayes rounds out the top 10 with 46 points.
