On Saturday, February 7, 2026, at approximately 3:40 a. m., the Hale County Sheriff’s Office called the Texas Rangers to assist with a death investigation, which was a result of a shooting event, in the 2700 block of Upchurch, in the Seth Ward neighborhood.
The Texas Department of Public Safety can confirm that four adults were pronounced deceased on scene, and one adult was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
The deceased on scene have been identified as Hector Alonso Sanchez (28), Tanya Paola Valadez Rangel (30), Rosalba Saenz Rodriguez (47) and Saul Villa (33) who also was identified as the assailant. Reily Joseph Zavala Barrientos (21) was pronounced deceased at Covenant Hospital-Plainview.
The Texas Rangers are investigating the incident and there is no threat to the public. There are no further details available at this time.
