GUSHER AT DELANO AVE. AND XIT – This photo of a gusher from a Littlefield City Water Main was taken at about 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 16, 2021. City users of Littlefield water were informed of the break, and later advised that TCEQ had mandated that a “boil water notice” message be sent to all Littlefield water customers. At 7:56 a.m. Thursday, June 17, customers were again advised of the boil water mandate, and that bottled drinking water was available to be picked up at the Ag and Community Center. FIXING WATER PROBLEM – A Littlefield City Crew is shown at 4 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, pumping water out of a water main rupture. The Water Department detected a leak in the water main beneath Delano Avenue, which provides water to the Waylon Jennings water tower. Delano is a reinforced state road, so the crew had to tear out rebar, as well as 4-inch thick concrete reinforcement. They found the water main is only two inches below the four-inch concrete. The water was still under pressure, although pumps had been disabled, so a sudden pressure release caused the water to spray up as high as the electrical wires above the street, and about 10 feet high after the initial release of the water pressure. This photo shows water still bubbling up from the remaining pressure. (Photo by Ann Reagan)
WATER DELIVERED TO VEHICLE – (right) Louisa Martinez and Will Williams, members of the LFD EMS volunteer staff, are shown as they delivered boxed bottled drinking water to a vehicle Thursday at the Ag and Community Center. A “boil water” notice had been issued by TCEQ for Littlefield water customers, because of the Main Water Line break that occurred Wednesday. (Staff Photo by Joella Lovvorn)
