Firm Foundation...

(Editor’s Note: This column is written by a different Littlefield pastor for the Leader-News each week. The columns are published on this page on Wednesdays.)

Acts 14:22 ends by saying, Through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God.”

We don’t always like to read a verse like that. We’d rather it say, “Through many days of happiness we enter the kingdom of God.”

But that isn’t life. Trials will always come on this earth. In fact, Job said it well: “Man who is born of a woman is few of days and full of trouble.”

This reminds me of one of my favorite songs right now, Firm Foundation by Cody Carnes.

Here is a portion of the lyrics:

Rain came and wind blew But my house was built on You I’m safe with You-I’m gonna make it through.” Yeah, I’m gonna make it through ‘Cause I’m standing strong on You Yeah, I’m gonna make it through ‘Cause my house is built on You Christ is my firm foundation- The Rock on which I stand When everything around me is shaken-I’ve never been more glad That I put my faith in Jesus-’ Cause He’s never let me down He’s faithful through generations-So why would He fail now? He Won’t!

This song references a story Jesus once told. A story about two houses. They were built at the same time and even with the same floor plan. But one was built on sand, while the other was built on a rock foundation. Storms came, hitting both houses. And as expected, the house built on sand collapsed, but the house built on the rock stood firm.

We all will experience storms in life. But when our life is built on Jesus Christ-we can strand strong. Romans 8: 28 says, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

We can’t always discern God’s ultimate purposes. But we can know that the ultimate result will be good . . . because God is good.

Love You All, Pastor Tanner
