The Olton Fillies’ varsity volleyball team celebrated senior day on Saturday with a victory over Post 3-0; 25-19, 25-20 and 25-21, to close out the regular season.
With the win the Fillies finish the regular season with an overall mark of 17-17, 5-5 in district.
Rebekka Lopez sent a kill sailing out of bounds to open set one, and Analise Ramage was called on the net during a block attempt to put Post in front, 0-2. Serenity Sanchez had a kill attempt land out of bounds on the sideline for the Lady Lopes to get Olton on the board, but the Fillies couldn’t capitalize, as Amberly Garza dropped in a tip for a kill to make the score, 1-3.
Sanchez sent another kill sailing out of bounds for Post, but a dig on the next play from Kaitlyn Avalos was killed at the net by Post to make the score, 2-4. The Lady Lopes served up back-to-back aces, before Ramage was called for a double-hit on the next play, stretching the lead to, 2-7. Post served up an ace off of Avalos to push the lead to, 2-8, as Olton took a time out to talk things over.
Out of the break, Ramage delivered a block, but the ball landed out of bounds on the sideline for a Post point. However, Post sent back-to-back kill attempts sailing out of bounds to trim the lead to, 4-9, but before the Fillies could rally, Sanchez delivered a kill off of the block attempt from Amiee Beelitz and Adrienne Struve, making the score, 4-10. Beelitz sent a kill attempt sailing out of bounds on the next play, but Post couldn’t capitalize, as Sanchez was called for a doublehit, giving the serve back to Olton with the score, 5-11. Ryleigh Matus had a kill attempt land out of bounds and a tip by Sanchez on the next play landed out of bounds on the sideline, making the score, 7-11.
Matus sent a hit short of the net, prompting Post to take a time out with their lead cut to 8-11. Out of the break, Beelitz had a kill tipped out of bounds by the Lady Lopes, and on the next play, a bad set by Sanchez hit the court for a Fillie point, cutting the lead to, 1011. The Olton rally continued, as Post was called for a double-hit and Struve served up an ace off of Garza to take the lead, 12-11.
Matus dropped a tip between Lopez and Avalos to end the rally and Beelitz sent a kill attempt sailing out of bounds on the next play, giving the lead back to Post, 1213. Olton would respond, as Matus was blocked by Beelitz and Taryn Smith for a kill to tie the set, 13-13.
A tip by Struve tipped the net for a kill and Smith followed it up with an ace off of Zailey Perez, before Denisse Alvarado sent a kill attempt out of bounds, making the score, 15-14. Beelitz sent a hit sailing out of bounds and Sanchez dropped a tip over Beelitz and Alvarado for a kill, before the Lady Lopes sent a hit short of the net, tying the set, 16-16.
Alvarado delivered a kill off of Saniya Sanchez and Beelitz followed it up with a kill off of Hanna Krauser to push the Olton lead to, 18-16. Ramage kept it going with a kill off of Krauser and on the next play, Matus sent a hit into the net to stretch the lead to, 20-16. The Fillies kept the rally going, as Beelitz served up an ace off of Serenity Sanchez to make the score, 21-16, as Post took a time out to talk things over.
Out of the break, a hit by Ramage sailed out of bounds and Post followed it up with a kill past Alvarado, trimming the lead to, 2119. But, Matus’ next serve fell short of the net for Post and Ramage followed it up with a kill off of the Post block attempt to push their lead to, 23-19. Ramage and Struve closed out set one with back-to-back kills, making the score, 25-19, as they took set one to go up 1-0 in the match.
A set by Struve was not played by the Fillies to open set two, but Struve responded with a kill off of Krauser making the score, 1-1. A long dig from Post was hit into the net by Kambri Ruiz, but Olton answered, as Beelitz delivered a kill off of Serenity Sanchez to tie the set, 2-2.
Post would rally for three points, before Karmon Mullins sent a hit into the net making the score, 3-5. Post sent a hit sailing out of bounds, before dropping in a tip for a kill to make the score, 4-6. A few plays later, Olton would tie the set, 10-10, after three consecutive aces by Ruiz. She kept it going with another ace to give the Fillies an, 11-10, lead, as the Lady Lopes took a time out to talk things over.
Out of the break, a tip by Post fell in front of Beelitz for a kill, but Beelitz responded with a kill in the back corner of the court to put them back in front, 12-11. Smith dropped in a tip off of the Post block attempt for a kill, but Post scored on the next play to make the score, 13-12. The Lady Lopes couldn’t capitalize though, as Garza sent a serve short of the net, making the score, 14-12.
Post would be called for four hits to make it a three-point game, 1512, but Struve sent a hit short of the net to give Post the serve back, 15-13. The Lady Lopes could not capitalize, as they sent a hit into the net and another hit by Serenity Sanchez landed out of bounds on the sideline, making the score, 17-13.
Post would rally back to make the score, 21-18, after Matus delivered a kill off of Kaybree Ramon, and Krauser followed it up with an ace to trim the lead to, 2119. However, Alvarado would deliver a kill off of Serenity Sanchez to push the lead to, 22-19, but Olton couldn’t get a rally going, as Beelitz sent a hit out of bounds, trimming the lead to, 22-20.
Ruiz would deliver a kill off of Serenity Sanchez and she followed it up with an ace to stretch their lead to, 24-20, before Matus was blocked by Struve for a kill to close out the set, 25-20, putting Olton up, 2-0, in the match.
Serenity Sanchez sent a hit into the net to open set three, but a tip by Struve didn’t make it over the net forcing a four hits call on Olton. Garza sent a serve short of the net for Post and Alvarado followed it up with an ace off of Harli McClellan making the score, 3-1. Post was called for being on the net and Struve followed it up with a kill on the next play to make the score, 5-1.
Post would battle back to make the score, 5-4, after a serve went unreturned by the Fillies. Both teams sent a serve short of the net and Matus sent a hit into the net to push Olton’s lead to, 7-5. Matus hit a ball short of the net again on the next play and Ramage followed it up with a kill to make the score, 9-5.
Serenity Sanchez dropped a tip over Ramage for a kill to end the scoring drought for Post, but on the next play, Perez sent a hit sailing out of bounds to make the score, 10-6. A save by Smith landed out of bounds on the sideline for Olton, but Matus was called for being on the net on the next play for Post, pushing the lead to, 11-7.
Beelitz dropped a tip on the sideline for a kill and Ramage followed it up with an ace off of McClellan to extend their lead to, 13-7. Beelitz kept it going with a kill at the net, but Post scored on the next play to regain the serve with the score, 14-8. Matus served up an ace for the Lady Lopez and Olton was called for a carry on the following play, trimming the lead to, 14-10.
Both teams sent a hit into the net and Struve followed it up with a kill past Matus, making the score, 16-11. A serve by Ruiz fell short of the net for Olton, but Post couldn’t capitalize after a return by Matus didn’t make it over the net, making the score, 17-12. Struve sent a hit sailing out of bounds and a bad tip by Ruiz on the next play landed out of bounds on the sideline, cutting the lead to, 17-14.
Beelitz sent a hit into the net, but Olton responded as Smith dropped a tip just over the net for a kill, pushing their lead back out to, 18-15. Serenity Sanchez sent a hit sailing out of bounds for Post and the Lady Lopes sent a hit into the net on the next play, making the score, 20-15, as Olton took a time out to talk things over.
Out of the break, Serenity Sanchez sent a hit into the net, but Olton’s rally ended with a serve out of bounds by Beelitz, making the score, 21-16. Post dropped in a kill on the sideline, but Ramage answered with a kill past Garza on the next play to push the lead to, 22-17. Olton was called for being on the net on back-to-back plays and Krauser followed it up with an ace to make the score, 22-20.
Ramage delivered a kill to regain the serve for Olton and Alvarado followed it up with a kill at the net off of a long dig by Perez, making the score, 24-20. Two plays later, Ramage delivered a kill past Serenity Sanchez to close out the set, 25-21, and the match, 3-0.
The Fillies will go into the 2A Big School Bracket of the Play-offs as the #1 seed and will take on.
