Elisardo Cueto leads newest update in Bowl Blowout Challenge

The Lamb County Leader-News’ Bowl Game Blowout is nearing its end, as the field for the National Championship game is set. This update includes games from Dec. 26th to Jan 1st.

In the Allstate Surgar Bowl, Washington survived a late scoring attempt from Texas to advance to the National Championship game with a, 37-31, victory over the Longhorns, while Michigan held on the Alabama Crimson Tide in overtime, 27-20, to win the Rose Bowl, punching their ticket to the National Championship.

On Tuesday, Dec. 26th, Minnesota took down Bowling Green in the Quick Lane Bowl, 30-24, while Texas State defeated Rice, 45-21, in the First Responder Bowl, and Kansas took down UNLV, 49-36, in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl.

On Wednesday, Dec. 27th, Virginia Tech blasted Tulane in the Military Bowl, 41-20, while West Virginia took care of North Carolina, 30-10, in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl. USE drummed Louisville, 42-28, in the Holiday Bowl, while Oklahoma State took down Texas A&M, 31-23, in the Texas Bowl.

On Thursday, Dec. 28th, Boston College took down SMU, 23-14, in the Wasabi Fenway Bowl, while, Rutgers edged out Miami, 31-24, in the Pinstripe Bowl, and Kansas State took down North Carolina State, 28-19, in the Pop-Tarts Bowl. Arizona pulled off the upset over Oklahoma in the Valero Alamo Bowl, 38-24.

On Friday, Dec. 29th, Notre Dame throttled Oregon State in the Sun Bowl, 40-8, while Clemson edged out Kentucky, 38-35, in the Gator Bowl, and Memphis took down Iowa State in the Liberty Bowl, 3626. Missouri defeated Ohio State, 14-3, in the Cotton Bowl Classic.

On Saturday, Dec. 30th, Ole Miss pulled out the win over Penn State in the Peach Bow, 38-25, while Maryland blasted Auburn in the Music City Bowl, 31-13, and Georgia throttled Florida State, 63-3, in the Orange Bowl. Wyoming edged out Toledo in the Arizona Bowl, 16-15.

On New Year’s Day, LSU snuck past Wisconsin, 35-31, in the ReliaQuest Bowl, while Oregon blasted Liberty in the Fiest Bowl, 45-6, and Tennessee shut out Iowa, 35-0, in the Citrus Bowl.

This update, our field of 18 contestants is led by Elisardo Cueto, who has tallied 32 points to this point in the contest. He is followed close behind by Danny Sanders, who is in second place with 30 points and Joe Lopez, who sits in third with 29 points.

Ben Eastepp and Jaime Grey are tied with 28 points, while Jennifer Ray and Tommy Cloninger are tied with 27 points and Jan Smith and Richard Carter are tied with 26 points. Martin Duran, Ernest Hernandez and Johnny Rosemond are tied with 25 points, while Juan Garza and Ed Dabrowski are tied with 24 points.

Bryan Allcorn has 23 points, while Pablo Trevino has 22 points and Teresa Dabrowski and Maria Pinon round out the field with 19 points each.

We have six contestants with a chance to get points in the National Championship game, five of which chose the Michigan Wolverines to win the big game and one who chose Washington to win it all. The game will be decided on Monday, January 8th.
