Week 11 of the Lamb County Leader-News Football Contest is in the books, meaning there is just one more week to decide who will be this year’s big winner of the Football Contest.
This week the top spot belongs to Ed Dabrowski, who finished with a score of 15-5 this week.
The tie-breaker this week was the combined score of the game between the Bills and the Jets, which was 37 points. Tommy Cloninger won second place this week with a guess of 47 points on the tie-breaker, edging out Donna Neinast’s guess of 48 points.
In the high school ranks, Roosevelt secured a play-off spot on the road with a win over Littlefield, 42-20, while Sudan fell to Ralls on the road, 27-13, as they both finished as co-district champions. Olton took down Floydada at home to secure the two seed in their district with a, 39-27 victory.
Springlake-Earth blasted Kress, 90-42, to claim their District title, and Amherst dropped a heartbreaker to Whitharral, 24-20. Anton fell to Lorenzo, 29-26, while Frenship took down San Angelo Central, 30-21, and Andrews took down Big Spring, 40-20.
Hirschi blasted Greenwood, 287, while Childress took down Friona, 45-9.
In the college ranks, Notre Dame pulled off the upset over Clemson, 35-14, while Georgia put a whooping on Tennessee, 27-13, and TCU took down Texas Tech, 34-24. LSU made a gutsy two-point conversion call in overtime to upset Alabama, 32-31, while North Carolina State took down Wake Forest, 3021.
In the NFL, the Chargers edged out the Falcons, 20-17, while the Bengals blasted the Panthers, 4221, and the Lions defeated the Packers, 15-9. The Patriots took down the Colts, 26-3, while the Jaguars defeated the Raiders, 2720.
The rest of the scores for this week are as follows: Those who went 13-7 this week were Brenda Herrell, David Neinast, Johnny Rosemond, Jan Smith, Dewayne Hayes, J. C. Orozco, Richard Orozco and Almaa Castillo, while those who finished 12-8 this week were JR Herrell, Martin Duran, Gary Edwards, Marcelino Garcia Jr., Marcus Garcia, Trevor Williams and Floyce Pierce.
11-9 finishers this week include Lonnie Neinast, Mark Grace, Stevy Smith, Deving Garcia, Sam Castillo, Maria Pinon, Marcelino Castillo, Jimmy Garcia and Robin Elliott, while those who tallied a mark of 10-10 were Ivan Estrada, Terrill Moorhead, Charlie Smith and Teresa Dabrowski.
Oscar Sanchez finished 9-11 this week, while Thomas Blackstone finished 8-12.
In the overall standings, Brenda Herrell is alone in first place with 156 points, but JR Herrell is right on her tail in second place with 155 points, followed by Martin Duran in third place with 154 points. David Neinast is in fourth with 153 points, while Rosemond is in fifth with 152 points, Edwards is in sixth with 151 points.
Donna Neinast is in seventh with 150 points, while Jan Smith and Lonnie Neinast are tied for eighth with 149 points. Cloninger and Estrada are tied for ninth with 148 points and Garcia Jr. and Garce round out the top 10 with 146 points each.
