Easter ...

“With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And God’s grace was so powerfully at work in them all.” Acts 4:33

I have always been a big movie goer. As a matter of fact, when I see a movie I really like, I will watch it a lot! When I was young I would watch a favorite movie so much that I could quote the lines from the actors or actresses as they were saying it. I’m sure some of you reading this, know exactly what I’m saying. At times I would take great joy in that and be so much a part of the story that I felt as if I were actually a part of it. As the years go by, I still have a tendency to pull up those old movies that I know so well, but there is something different happening now, more than ever.

What is happening now, more than ever, is I find myself forgetting some of the lines, or being distracted with other things going on around me, that I am no longer focused on the story. Kind of like saying “I know what is happening here so much that I no longer have to put my whole self into it, because I have seen this movie enough to know what happens.”

So, I might have Crocodile Dundee on, and tell my wife “watch this move by Crocodile,” and then not even watch it myself while I’m playing chess on my IPAD! That happened last night, by the way. Of course my wife was on her phone checking Facebook and asked what the move was? My reply? What move are you talking about? Then, I finally remembered and tried to explain.

What am I talking about here? Well, it is knowing the story, but no longer throwing yourself completely into the story, where it loses the impact that it used to have on you.

This Sunday, in most churches across our nation and even our world, there will be the most important story ever told, that has changed the world forever, but I wonder sometimes if we know this story so well, that we somehow have lost focus on how important it is.

The above Scripture said that the apostles with great power continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And God’s grace was so powerfully at work in them all. That means that the story literally meant everything to them, and it was achieving wonderful things.

Dear friends, the story of Easter is The Story. The story of the resurrection of Jesus is the only story that really matters in this life and the life to come! Without the resurrection we are still powerless and doomed to hell. But because of the resurrection, God’s grace is available to us all, and it is continually at work to change and transform us as people and our world, if we continue to live and testify to this wonderful work in and through Jesus Christ!

It’s time that we get back to telling this story and being fully involved in sharing or testifying to those around us of the wonderful love of God, and His power witnessed by the resurrection! Unlike a movie, where we can only quote a line, we can be fully involved in this story and continue to live in the power of the resurrection.

Now I ask you, from this point on until you breathe your last breath, will you choose to tell this wonderful story of the Christ who died for you? It really is the only story worth telling. Why? Because it is true, and it has eternal significance!
