Donna Neinast wins Week Four of Football Contest

Week four of the Lamb County Leader-News Football Contest is in the rear view and this week’s slate of games brought some close calls at all three levels.

This week we had four contestants tie for the top spot each finishing 18-2: Alma Castillo, David Neinast, Donna Neinast and Mark Grace.

Donna Neinast ended up taking first place via the tie-breaker, which was the combined score from the Browns and Texans game (52 points). She guessed it right on the button to earn first place.

David Neinast took second place via the tie-breaker with a guess of 49 points, while Alma Castillo edged out Grace for third place with a guess of 47 points on the tie-breaker.

On the high school slate of games, Idalou ran away from Littlefield in the second half, taking the contest, 56-13, while Whitharral 45’ed Sands, 54-8. Amherst took down Wellman-Union, 62-14, for a homecoming victory, and Sudan fell to Stamford at Post, 46-20.

Anton won via forfeit by Lorenzo, while Springlake-Earth 45’ed O’Donnell, 75-28, and Lubbock-Cooper got the best of Monterey, 28-21. River Road blasted Lamesa, 41-18, while Abernathy took it to Post, 33-7. Dumas throttled Plainview, 48-14, to round out the high school games.

On the college slate, Notre Dame, pulled away late from Purdue, 27-13, while West Virginia upset Virginia Tech, 27-21. Alabama survived a scare at The Swamp from Florida, 31-29, while Wake Forest stunned Florida State, 35-14. Georgia blasted South Carolina, 40-13.

In the NFL, the Cardinals edged out the Vikings, 34-33, while the Bills shutout the Dolphins, 35-0. The Cowboys won on a late field goal over the Chargers, 20-17, while the Raiders took down the Steelers, 26-17, and the 49ers snuck by the Eagles, 17-11.

The rest of the contestant results for week two are as follows:

Lonnie Neinast, Martin Duran Jr., Stevy Smith and Tommy Cloninger each finished 17-3 this week, while Dewayne Hayes, Ivan Estrada, Jim Davis Jr., Jim Davis Sr., JR Herrell, Kay Cloninger, Lyndel Evans, Oscar Sanchez and Sam Castillo each finished 16-4.

Ed Dabrowski, Jan Smith, Johnny Rosemond, Marcelino Garcia Jr., Martin Duran, Robin Elliott, Ronnie Martin, Terrill Moorhead and Thomas Blackstone each finished 15-5 this week, while Devin Garcia and Marcus Garcia each finished 14-6 this week.

Brenda Herrell, Juan Hernandez and Larry Ashley each finished 13-7, while Teresa Dabrowski finished 11-9 and Marcelino Castillo finished 8-12 this week.

In the overall standings, Oscar Sanchez has some company at the top of the standings, as David and Donna Neinast join him in first place, each with 58 points. Tommy Cloninger is in second place with 57 points, while Lonnie Neinast and Evans are tied for third place with 56 points.

Rosemond sits in fourth place with 55 points, while Garcia Jr., and Blackstone are tied for fifth with 54 points. Grace, and Davis Jr., are tied for sixth with 53 points, while Estrada and Kay Cloninger are tied for seventh with 52 points.

JR Herrell, Ed Dabrowski, Duran, Martin and Moorhead are tied for eighth with 51 points, while Hayes, Davis Sr. and Jan Smith are tied for ninth with 50 points and Elliott rounds out the top 10 with 49 points.
