Commissioners hold regular meeting Monday

The Commissioners Court of Lamb County, Texas, met in regular session on Monday in the Lamb County Courthouse to discuss an eight-item agenda.

Lamb County Judge, James DeLoach called the meeting to order at 10 a.m. and there was nobody present for public comment.

Consent agenda items: (a) Consider and take appropriate action on minutes from previous meeting(s); There was one regular meeting, March 27, 2023.

(b) Consider and take appropriate action on budget and salary amendments and/or line item transfers; Gina Jones presented one budget amendment for Pretrial diversion fund.

(c) Consider and take appropriate action on bills presented by the County Auditor Gina Jones; Jones asked the commissioners to approve bills totaling $665,965.71.

(d) Consider and take appropriate action on payroll presented by Jerry Yarbrough; she asked the commissioners to approve payroll for Lamb County ending on March 24th in the amount of $149,081.30, and payroll for LHC ending on March 25th in the amount of $195,946.16.

(e) Consider and take appropriate action on departmental reports; packets.

(f) Consider and take appropriate action on Approving the 4th Quarter of 2022, Treasurer’s Report; presented by Jerry Yarbrough.

(g) Consider and take appropriate action on Donations for Lamb County; Gina Jones said there were two, one in the amount of $400 for the Library and one in the amount of $171 for Decorations.

The motion was made by Commissioner Cory DeBerry and seconded by Commissioner Danny Short to approve the consent agenda items. The motion carried unanimously.

The next item of business was to consider and take appropriate action on the Renewal of the TX OAG Victim Coordinator Liaison Grant.

District Attorney Rickie Redman, introduced their Victim Assistance Coordinator Lori Zinn, who spoke about what she does and how this grant helps their office, saying, “We have to reapply for this grant every two years. In the last two fiscal years we’ve had 128 continued victims and an average of 171 new victims. We’re expecting 200 or more new victims this upcoming year.”

Zinn added, “We have also reached 95% of the targeted goals for what the state wants us to do.”

The motion was made by Commissioner Kent Lewis and seconded by Commissioner Lee Logan to approve the Renewal of the TX OAG Victim Coordinator Liaison Grant. The motion carried unanimously.

Item five on the agenda was to consider and take appropriate action on an emergency purchase of a vehicle for the Sheriff’s Office.

Judge DeLoach stated that Sheriff Gary Maddox told him that he has located a Tahoe that was available and fit what they needed it to.

The motion was made by Commissioner Logan and seconded by Commissioner Short to approve the appropriate action on emergency purchase of a vehicle for the Sheriff’s Office. The motion carried unanimously.

Cindy Pope was absent from the meeting, therefore no report was given for LHC, however Jerry Yarbrough stated that the Hospital is making payments.

Each elected official and department head gave brief reports on their office and with there being no further business to discuss, the motion was made by Commissioner Logan and seconded by Commssioner Short to adjourn. The motion passed unanimously and the meeting was adjourned at 10:26 a.m.
