The Commissioners Court of Lamb County held their regular meeting at 10 a.m. on Monday, at the Lamb County Courthouse, where a 14—item agenda will be considered for appropriate action.
The meeting was called to order at 10 a.m. by Lamb County Judge James DeLoach. There was nobody present for the public comment portion of the meeting.
Consent Agenda: a) Consider and take appropriate action on minutes from previous meeting(s). Judge DeLoach stated that there was one set of minutes from the August 25th meeting and they were in order. b) Consider and take appropriate action on budget and salary amendments and/or line-item transfers; none. c) Consider and take appropriate action on bills presented by the County Auditor; County Auditor Gina Jones requested that the Commissioners approve bills totaling $1,398,616.78. d) Consider and take appropriate action on payroll; County Treasurer Jerry Yarbrough requested that the Commissioner approve payroll for Lamb County ending on August 22nd in the amount of $163,553.56, and for LHC payroll ending on August 23rd in the amount of $227,459.74. e) Consider and take appropriate action on departmental reports; Packets.
The motion to approve the consent agenda was made by Commissioner Lee Logan and seconded by Commissioner Danny Short. The motion carried.
Item 4 on the agenda was to consider and take appropriate action on Public Hearing for 2025-2026 Fiscal Year budget.
Judge DeLoach opened the Public Hearing at 10:09 a.m. and closed the Public Hearing at 10:16 a.m.
The next order of business was to consider and take appropriate action on Adoption of the 2025-2026 Fiscal Year Budget.
The motion to adopt the 2025-2026 Fiscal Year Budget as presented was made by Commissioner Short and seconded by Commissioner Logan. The motion carried.
The next item on the agenda was to consider and take appropriate action on Public Hearing for 2025 Tax Rate.
Judge DeLoach opened the Pubic Hearing at 10:18 a.m. Jones stated that the Tax Rate will stay the same at .76. Judge DeLoach closed the Public Hearing at 10:20 a.m.
Item seven on the agenda was to consider and take appropriate action on Adoption of the 2025 Tax Rate.
Motion to adopt the 2025 Tax Rate; Cory DeBerry read “THIS TAX RATE WILL RAISE MORE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS THAN LAST YEAR’S TAX RATE”; THE TAX RATE WILL EFFECTIVELY BE RAISED BY 4.28 PERCENT AND WILL RAISE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS ON A $100,000 HOME BY APPROXIMATELY $42.80.”
The motion was made by Commissioner DeBerry and seconded by Commissioner Short to adopt the 2025 Tax Rate. The motion carried.
The next order of business was to consider and take appropriate action Ratify Property Tax Increase Reflected in the FY 2025-2026 Budget.
The motion was to approve to ratify property tax increase reflected in the FY 2025-2026 Budget being $868,695.96.
The motion was made by Commissioner Logan and seconded by Commissioner Kent Lewis. The motion carried.
The next item on the agenda was to consider and take appropriate action on Sheriffs Fees.
The motion to keep Sheriff’s fees the same was made by Commissioner Short and seconded by Commissioner Logan. The motion carried.
Item 10 on the agenda was to consider and take appropriate action on Soil Conservation Work in Precinct 4. The motion to approve Soil Conservation Work in Precinct 4 was made by The next order of business was to consider and take appropriate action on appointment of Library board member.
The motion was made by Commissioner DeBerry and seconded by Commissioner Logan to approve Sabrina as a Library Board Member for a vacant spot. The motion carried.
Future agenda items were discussed: Tuesday, Sept. 23rd, outside auditors will be doing a walk through. Wednesday, Sept. 24th there is a meeting with TAC and Flu Shots for County Employees will be Oct. 10th.
During the Budget work Session, salary for JP4 was talked about and no action was taken.
With there being no further business to discuss a motion was made by Commissioner Logan and seconded by Commissioner Lewis to adjourn. The motion carried and the meeting was adjourned at 10:36 a.m.
