On January 13, 2023, after three decades, Brian Goss retired from Lamb County EC.
On August 18, 1992, Goss started his career as a meter reader. Prior to working at Lamb County EC, he worked at Nelson’s hardware store for seventeen years. He started working at Nelson’s back when he was a freshman at Littlefield High School. Goss ventured out on his own for three years, as a handyman.
Goss stated that he enjoyed his time at the cooperative, serving and working with the employees and members. He was thankful for his cooperative family. “You don’t work with people for thirty years and not build a family bond.”
He will miss the family activities that he and his family have enjoyed throughout the years. Goss’s servant heart provided many breakfast burritos for some of the employees every morning and was always willing to give a helping hand.
Even though he liked his job as a meter reader, his job evolved because technology changed. A few years ago, his title changed to AMI Technician, when the cooperative went to electronic remote meters. Goss stated that going out in the field to read meters on Lamb County EC’s service was no longer required unless a reading could not be electronically acquired from the electronic remote meters.
To resolve the issue, he would have to go out to that meter’s location and find the problem and get a reading. He continued to install load controls, until the load control program was deleted, then he had to start removing load controls. He continued to work on lands in the meters and program cross-band repeaters.
Even though technology has had an impact in the meter department, a lot of improvements have been made to the cooperative’s equipment in the line department, to better serve the members.
Goss stated that his plans for retirement are to complete all the honey-do’s his wife Debra of thirty-five years has on her list. They have three children: Stephanie ( Kenny Trotter), Allison (Anthony Quilantan) and Chrissy (Kevin Bass). He wants to finish his shop, tend to his cattle, do some wood crafts and welding too. Most of all he wants to get to spend more time with his grandchildren: Britton, Ailey, and Kambry.
On behalf of the board of directors, employees and members, thank you for your thirty years of service at Lamb County Electric Cooperative, Brian.
