Thinking I was typing the words, “Soaking in God’s Word” into my search engine, I inadvertently entered them into a new AI generator. Imagine my surprise when in seconds, up popped the picture it created – a visual representation of those words. The beautiful accident is now at the top of my Facebook page.
I love its peaceful feel, with trees and green growth edging the banks of what looks like a small lake. A person sits on a rock at the edge with their feet resting on a large rock that’s submerged just enough for the water to cover the sole of their feet. And they’re holding an open Bible on their lap, while a bright light shines through the trees.
The scene depicts well what God’s Word means to our soul when we absorb it into our hearts: Refreshment. Rejuvenation. Peace. Life. Like refreshing water is to our physical body. When Jesus spoke to the woman at the well, He pointed to the water then told her (and us), “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” (John 4:1314 NIV) Just as water is needed to maintain our physical life, we need Jesus to secure a thriving spiritual life. And just like natural water is known to refreshingly clean and quench the thirst of our physical self, we can also confidently know as believers the same, and more, is true about the refreshing spiritual water only Jesus and His Word can give.
We are amazingly blessed to be able to drink of the same Living Water that Jesus shared about with the woman at the well. Like a living sponge, let’s faithfully take in the life-giving water of God’s Word, letting it refresh our spirit as it settles deep into our heart and soul.
“Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life.” Revelation 22:17b Evelyn is retired from a career in Christian ministry, and now enjoys writing of God’s welcoming love and grace.
