Band competes in UIL contests at home school

Saturday Feb.19 th , Littlefield High School was the host for six other schools competing in UIL Solo & Ensemble Contests.

The last two years, because of Covid, the judges have been traveling judges.

The judges for our six school contests were, James Nance, retired New Deal and David Rollins, retired Denver City.

The schools competing at our contests were: Littlefield, Levelland, Muleshoe, Smyer, Morton, and Farwell.

Littlefield had 35 students compete and all 35 of them medaled in at least one event.

Earning 1st divisions on solos are: Clarinet, Marcos Rodriguez; Alto Sax, Steven Lowe and Victoria Roque; Cornet, Miriam Cueto; French Horn, Margarrett Rowe and Madelyn Moreno; Tuba, Cesar Garcia; Mallet Solo,Devyn Crouch and Abby Bass; Snare Solo, Marissa Perez; Tom Solo, Micah Keeney.

Earning a trip to UIL State Solo Competition on Memorial Day weekend in Austin are: Abby Bass, Micah Keeney, and Marissa Perez. To qualify for state on a solo, it must be a class 1 (most difficult level) and played by memory if instructions say so.

Littlefield high school took 11 ensembles to UIL Contest on Saturday. All 11 of these ensembles were class 1 ensembles. All 10 ensembles earned gold medals on Saturday and qualified for UIL State Solo & Ensemble Contest.

ENSEMBLES

Flute Trios: Caytlin Black, Valeria Cruz, and Lily Loredo.

Clarinet Trio: Lindsey Fuentes, Marcos Rios, and Lauren Turpen.

Sax Trio: Nick Caballero, Akia Galan, and Landon McKinnerney.

Sax Trio: McKenzie Price, Victoria Roque, and Jacob Turpen.

Percussion Trio: Abigail Bass, Jordan Randle, and Maddy Tarango.

QUARTETS

Flute Quartet: Zamya Darnell, Taryn Golden, Brianna Martinez, and Trishtin Vargas.

Clarinet Quartet: Brittany Abeyta, Cruz Avila, Lindsey Fuentes, and Lauren Turpen.

Horn Quartet: Audrey McKinnon, Avianna Mendoza, Madelyn Moreno, and Justin Ramirez.

QUINTETS

Brass Quintet: Chloe Diaz, Diego Gonzales, Mallory Marquez, Avianna Mendoza, and Edwin Gallegos.

Brass Quintet: Cesar Garcia, Iris Hernandez, Yazmin Longoria, Adam MacDonald, and Margarrett Rowe.

SEXTET

Brass Sextet: Ethan Beversdorf, Lucas Casas, Caleb Caudillo, Chloe Diaz, Xander Lemer, and Audrey McKinnon.

The Band Director applauded the students for their accomplishments at the contests. “We are so proud of all our students and their hard work. They volunteered and worked for the right to go to the state contest which will be held in Austin during the Memorial Day Weekend.”
