On Sunday, Jan. 2, the Littlefield Police department was contacted by a caller reporting there was no staff available to take care of their relative at Arbor Grace Wellness Center on Marshall Howard Blvd.
An officer was dispatched to do a welfare check at the facility. According to reports, there was one CNA, one dietician, and one volunteer physician on the premises. There appeared to be a staff walkout. The people who responded to the facility were unsuccessful in contacting management of the facility to get qualified caregivers and professional staff to care for the residents. They have been attempting to get qualified staff in to care for the residents.
The Texas Department of Health and Human Services are currently conducting investigations. The Office of the Attorney General of Texas has also expressed participation in the investigations. There have been no reports of serious injuries to any of the residents at this time. A release from the Texas Department of Health and Human Services states:
“Our top priority is the health and safety of the people in longterm care facilities we regulate.
We have received allegations about staffing issues at this facility, and we are actively investigating to assess the facility’s compliance with all relevant state rules and requirements.
Once our investigation work is complete, the final report for the investigation will be available to request through our open records process”
