The 78th annual Olton 4-H and FFA Livestock Show will be conducted Thursday, Jan. 19 thru Saturday, Jan. 21 in the Olton Ag Pavilion in Olton, according to Kevin Hukill, president of the Olton Junior Livestock Association Board of Directors.
Hukill said the show will include goats, lambs, barrows, heifers and steers. Kyle Stevens is scheduled to judge the show for the second year.
The barn at Olton Ag Pavilion opens at 8 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 19 for the arrival of animals. Weighing of animals will begin at 4 p.m. with barrows, followed by lambs, goats, steers and check in of heifers.
Judging will get underway at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 20, with the goat show leading the lamb show.
The official grand opening of the show is set for 11 a.m. and is scheduled to include introductions of show directors as well as FFA and 4-H officers, advisors and school officials.
Barrow judging is set to begin at noon Friday with the Berkshire breed, according to Jim Aldridge, superintendent. The heifer show will begin 30 minutes following pee-wee barrow showmanship, according to Mary Bass, beef superintendent.
The steer show will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan 21, according to Michael McFadden, beef superintendent.
The 2023 show will be officially dedicated during a presentation at 12:45 p.m.; then an awards presentation for champion animals, showmanship winners, according to LaDanda Kauffman, board secretary.
The 4-H and FFA Cake Auction will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19. Proceeds from the cake auction benefit the Olton Livestock Project Center. The Premium Auction Sale begins at 1:30 p.m. of steers, barrows and goats will be in the premium auction, with Leonard Lawson serving as auctioneer.
“The public is invited to support 4-H and FFA members by bidding on their animal projects,” Hukill said.
The 78th annual Olton FFA and 4-H Livestock Show is open to the public, and admission is free. Parents of 4-H and FFA members will be manning the concession stands during the shows.
In addition to Hukill, who serves as president, the Olton Junior Livestock Association Board of Directors includes Josh Parkey, vice president; LaDanda Kauffman, secretary; and Michael McFadden, treasurer. Directors include Joe Sanchez, Marka Frances, Brent Burns, Jim Aldridge, Mary Bass, Dale Falcon, Callen Pinkerton and Michael Peggram.
