4-H --What are the Four H’s?

Lot’s of people know what 4-H is or at least think they do. What are the 4 H’s?

1. Head 2. Heart 3. Hands 4. Health Many of us could come up with excellent examples of what all of these would have to do with but most would be wrong.

The 4-H Pledge reads like this

“I pledge my Head to clearer thinking, my Heart to greater loyalty, my Hands to larger service, and my Health to better living.”

In my opinion they sound like good rules to try and better ourselves not only through 4-H but in everyday life.

Hi, My name is Paisli Claunch and I started my 4-H career 4 years ago. In my life agriculture and 4-H are a huge part of my life. Today agriculture is a huge thing all over the world. Agriculture was first introduced into the world round 12,000 years ago so let’s just say it has been around a long time!

I would like to share one of my favorite agriculture past experience’s with you today. Last year I placed 2nd middle weight at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo with my Santa Gertrudes named Tiny, and this our story.

This is my family’s 3rd year of raising a few of our own club calves. This particular recipient cow was passed her due date, so we gave a her a shot to make her go in labor. That night my mom and dad went to check on her and she was In labor. My parents ended up having to assist her while she was in labor. When they finally got him pulled he weighed 110 pounds not literally, but he was a huge calf. Thats why his name was Tiny, from then on we were best friends, even when he would get scared and fling me across the the show ring. He was my most favorite show calf of all times.

If it weren’t for my past generations of family being in the agriculture world, I may have never had the opportunity to be involved in 4- H and gained the amount of knowledge that I have today. For that I am very thankful.

“Help me, O Lord, to live so that the world may be a little better because Thou Dost make me. Amen”
