2-year-old dies of injuries in roll-over crash Friday

A 2-year-old juvenile male of Sudan died of injuries sustained in a roll-over accident about a mile north of the Lamb-Hockley County line on U.S. Highway 385 at 7:06 p.m. Friday evening, Dec. 11,2020.

Department of Public Safety officials released this information regarding the accident.

Esteban Villareal, 23, of Sudan, was driving a 2004 Lincoln Navigator Sport utility vehicle north on U.S. 385, with three passengers, all who were not wearing their seat belts.

The roadway was clear and dry, and the posted speed limit is 75 mph.

The report reveals that, for reasons unknown, the driver drove onto the right improved shoulder, and the vehicle began to side skid and rolled multipe times.

The 2-year-old juvenile male was ejected from the vehicle and was pronouncd dead at the scene.

Two other occupants in the crash, Arlene Julisa Lira Lopez, 22, and a 3-year-old juvenile female, both of Sudan, were transported to University Medical Center in Lubbock, with serious injuries.

The driver sustained minor injuries and refused medical treatment, according to the DPS report.

Department of Public Safety officials explain that this information is from a preliminary report, and the information may change, be corrected, or added to, based on the findings in the ongoing investigation.
