18 Littlefield band members earn seat in ‘23 ATSSB Honor Band

Saturday December 10, 2022 The Littlefield Wildcat band took 18 band students to Levelland High School to compete in ATSSB (Association of Texas Small School Bands) 1st round process of earning a seat in the 2023 All State Band. These students competed against band members from class 1A-4A schools in our region 16 district.

If a student is serious about this band, they must begin preparing in August when school begins. The music is extremely difficult and takes time to prepare/get ready to play. These students have been practicing since the middle of August and working with one of the three directors at least once a week. We require weekly tutorials on music with a director. If they don’t practice, after several meetings, a director will drop them.

Saturday all 18 of these band students earned a seat in the 2023 ATSSB Honor Band. Because of their hard work, they all placed high enough to advance to the next level in their quest to make THE ALL STATE BAND.

The 2nd and final round of competition will take place Saturday January 7th, 2023 in Levelland. This is known as Area Band Competition. The 18 students will compete with students as far as El Paso, Amarillo, San Angelo and Abilene.

They will compete with students from class 1A-4A schools. This means if they seriously want to make the all state band, they MUST PRACTICE DAILY during Christmas break.

We (directors) are so proud of these kids. They work so hard. Congratulations band members. “IT’S A GREAT DAY TO BE A MARCHIN’ CAT!!!
