15th Thunder-on-the-Plains Car Show, set this weekend

The popular two-day 2021 Thunder-on-the-Plains Car show will be held Friday and Saturday, Aug. 20-21, at Levelland.

This is the 15th year for the combination car show, cruise and burn-out contest.

Thunder on the Plains hosted a mini-car show last weekend on the east side of the square during Levelland’s Blue and You event, attracting a sampling of some of the collectible vehicles which will be exhibited at the annual car show.

Exhibitors are expected from across the region this year.

The South Plains Best Western Inn and Suites will again be the headquarters for cruise and poker run registration. The poker run will be from 6:30 until 7:30 p.m. Friday evening, and the annual cruise will be from 7:30 until 9 p.m. Participants must register to be considered for trophies which will be awarded during the event.

The focus will shift to the City Park Saturday.

Registration for the car show starts at 8 a.m., with open parking for all classes.

The car show will have 18 cars and two motorcycle classes (stock and custom).

First, second- and third-place prizes will be awarded.

The car show is participant judged with a people’s choice trophy also being awarded.

Door prizes, a swap meet, food and drink booths and vendor booths will also be available.

A Hot Wheels race for kids will also be held.

The burn-out contest, sponsored by O’Reilly Auto Parts of Levelland, will be held at high noon, and will award a $300 King of the Hill cash prize.

Car show awards will be presented at 3 p.m. with cash prizes being presented for the best Ford, Chevy, Mopar and other entries.
