2021 Amherst Celebration Continued...

3&4 YEAR-OLD TRACTOR PULLERS – Winners of this age division were Decklan Rogers, first place; Hunter Pattersin, second; and Louie Martinez, third. Others participating were: Olivia Merriam, Isabel Vega, Leo Vega, Sophie Hackler, and Abdiel Cardenas.

5&6 YEAR-OLD TRACTOR PULLERS – Winners of this age division were: Mikyel Miller, first place; Coe Harden, second; and Trayce Tolbert, third. Others participating were: Gage Merriam, Katie Martin, and Charlie Sawyer. Every participant received a gold coin.

7&8 YEAR-OLD TRACTOR PULLERS – Winners of this division were Sahily Gaytan, first place; Maxx Medrano, second; and Kambrill Sawyer, third place. All of the participants received a gold coin. Others who participated were: Zane Wingo and Masson Seymore.

COACH ROBERT HERRERA introduced the Amherst Bulldog Football team members Saturday, during the Amherst Day Celebration. They were also on a float in the parade Saturday.

WAYNE SWART of Sudan won second-place in the parade Saturday morning, and received a $20 gift card as his prize. He drove his antique John Deere Tractor in the parade. Bubba Dunn’s First-Place parade award went to Terry Stancel, who drove a tractor pulling a toy tractor. Announcing the honor was Kimberly Brantley on the stage, while Maria Gonzalez, president of the Amherst Chamber of Commerce, presented the awards.

JUNE HEIM of Amherst, gathered many of the stories she wrote while working with the Amherst Press, and made a book with them. She also included some other important news items that occurred during that time. She offered it for the auction sale Saturday afternoon under the Amherst City Park Pavilion, and it was sold for the winning bid of $180. It is to be included in the more than $2,000 which will be presented by the Amherst Chamber of Commerce to the Amherst ISD for scholarships. Another auction raised more than $600 for the playgroud in the Amherst City Park.
