The Littlefield Wildcats’ varsity basketball team pulled out a big win on the road on Friday night over the Dimmitt Bobcats, 66-60, as they remain in front in District 3-3A.

With the win, the Wildcats improve to 12-10 overall, 4-0 in district play.

CJ Willey opened the contest with a lay-up off of the assist from Ivan Moreno, but Jeremiah Trevino and Chip Green answered with back-toback lay-ups and Ryan Williams followed it up by hitting Q Busby on a back-door cut for a lay-up to push the Littlefield lead to, 6-2, with 5:15 to play in the opening quarter. Dimmitt took a time out with 5:13 to play in the first, and out of the break, Willey buried a three from the right wing to make it a one-point Wildcat lead, 6-5.

On the other end, Ryan Williams hit Busby with an alley-oop pass for a lay-up, and on their next possession, Elijah Salazar was fouled on an attempt by Daunte Perez. He made one of two shots at the line to stretch their lead to, 9-5, with just under four minutes to play in the quarter. Trevino used a spin move to get into the paint for a lay-up, but Dimmitt answered, as Emiliano Peralta dropped in a put-back off of a miss by Willey to trim the lead to, 11-7.

The Bobcats regained possession, and Peralta was fouled on a shot attempt by Green. He converted both shots at the line to make it a one-possession game, but it was short-lived, as Busby knocked down a jumper from the left elbow on the other side to push the lead back out to four points, 13-9. With 2:13 remaining in the quarter, Trevino was fouled in transition, earning a trip to the line. He sank both free throws to push their lead to, 15-9.

Willey dropped in the answer for Dimmitt, but with under a minute remaining in the quarter, Salazar buried a three for the Wildcats to make the score, 18-11. With time winding down in the quarter, Trevino was fouled on an attempt by Willey and converted both free throws, but on the other end, Moreno dropped a pass over the top of the defense to Willey, who finished off the play with a lay-up, drawing an and-one foul on Busby. He converted the free throw to trim the lead to, 2014, but at the buzzer, Trevino drained a three from the left elbow to push the Wildcats’ lead to, 23-14, as the first quarter came to a close.

Willey and Green exchanged threes to open the second frame and Ja’Den Williams dropped in a floater on the left wing to make the score, 28-17. Green followed it up with a lay-up off of the assist from Ryan Williams, but Dimmitt answered with a lay-up from David Fuentes, making the score, 3019, with 5:09 to play in the half.

Ryan Williams was fouled on an attempt by Fuentes; he sank both free throws to make the score, 32-19. Willey dropped in a put-back off of his own miss, but Ryan Williams answered with a floater from the right elbow, stretching the lead back out to, 34-21, with 4:04 to play in the half. Perez was fouled on an attempt by Ja’Den Williams and converted both shots from the line, as Littlefield took a time out with 3:38 to play in the second quarter.

Out of the break, Willey scored a fast-break lay-up off of a steal, but on the other end, Trevino was fouled on a put-back attempt by Enriquez; he knocked down both shots at the line to make it an 11-point lead for Littlefield, 36-25. Moreno buried a three from the right elbow, before Dimmitt closed out the half on a, 10-4, scoring run to cut the lead to, 40-35, going into the locker room at halftime.

Busby dropped in a lay-up off of a steal to open the second half, and Ryan Williams followed it up with a lay-up to push their lead back out to nine points, as Dimmitt called a time out to talk things over, with just under six minutes to play in the third quarter. Out of the break, Trevino dropped in a lay-up and was fouled on the play. He converted the and-one free throw, pushing the lead to, 47-35.

Zeke Saenz knocked down a jumper from the left elbow off of an assist from Salazar, but Peralta answered with a three from the left elbow to cut the lead to, 49-38. Busby drained a three from the left wing off of an assist from Ryan Williams to push the lead back out to, 52-38, but on the other end, Moreno was fouled on an attempt by Saenz. He made one-of-two shots at the line, trimming the lead to, 52-39.

Busby knocked down a jumper from the free-throw line off of an assist from Green, but on the other end, Peralta was fouled on an attempt by MJ Randle. He made the first and missed the second, but Willey was fouled on the put-back attempt by Randle. Willey, though, would miss both free throws, leaving the score, 54-40.

On their next possession, Willey dropped in a floater off the glass, as Littlefield took a time out with 1:19 to play in the third. Out of the break, Willey dropped in a lay-up, but with time winding down, Busby scored a lay-up off of a steal to close out the third quarter with Littlefield in front, 46-44.

Fuentes opened the fourth quarter with a lay-up for the Bobcats, and on the other end, Ryan Williams was called for a charge, turning possession back over to Dimmitt with 7:19 to go in the game. Fuentes was fouled on an attempt by Ja’Den Williams; he split the free throw attempts and Perez and Fuentes scored back-to-back layups to slice the lead to, 56-51, as Littlefield took a time out with 3:39 remaining. Out of the break, Green drove the lane for a lay-up, but Willey answered with a quick lay-up, and Moreno followed it up with a three from the top of the key to make it a one-possession Littlefield lead, 58-56, with 1:38 remaining.

Trevino drove to the hoop for a lay-up, but on the other end, Peralta dropped in a lay-up, drawing an andone foul on Green. He missed the free throw, leaving the score, 60-58, with 1:15 to play. Littlefield took a time out with 1:06 remaining to prevent a 10second violation, and out of the break, Trevino hit Busby for a lay-up to push their lead to, 62-58.

Dimmitt took a time out with 40.5 seconds remaining and out of the break, Trevino was fouled on the floor and converted both shots on a onein- one opportunity to make the score, 64-58. Peralta drove to the basket for a lay-up and Green was fouled on the floor by the Bobcats and iced the game by making both free throws, as Littlefield took their first meeting of the season with the Bobcats, 66-60.

Trevino led the Wildcats in scoring with 26 points, while Busby netted 15 points, and Green tallied 11 points. Ryan Williams contributed six points, while Salazar chipped in four points, and Ja’Den Williams and Saenz each finished with two points in the contest.

The Wildcats were at Friona on Tuesday to take on the Chieftains in district play. Results were not available at press time. They will host Lamesa on Friday to wrap up the first half of district play.
