Wildcats throttle Golden Tornadoes, 74-36

The Littlefield Wildcats’ varsity basketball team throttled the Lamesa Golden Tornadoes on their senior night Tuesday night, 74-36.

With the win, the Wildcats improve to 24-3 overall, 7-1 in district play.

Pedro Barrioz dropped in a layup in transition to open the game for Lamesa, and Richie Dimas hit Isaiah Martinez in transition for a lay-up to put the Golden Tornadoes in front, 4-0, but with seven minutes to go in the opening quarter, Chip green was fouled on an attempt by Noah Garcia, earning a trip to the line. He converted both shots to cut the lead in half, and Ryan Williams followed it up with a floater in the lane to tie the game, 4-4, with 6:38 to play in the first quarter.

Robert Dimas dropped in a layup over Ryan Williams, but Ja’Den Williams answered with a lay-up to keep the game tied, 6-6. Green dropped in a put-back off of his own miss, drawing an and-one foul on the play. He converted the free throw to make the score, 9-6, and on the next play, Ja’Den Williams picked up a steal, dishing the ball to Jeremiah Trevino, who pushed the outlet pass ahead to Green, who missed the shot, but Ryan Williams was there for the put-back, stretching their lead to, 11-6.

Kaleb Ramos drove the right side for a lay-up, but Kam McCarty dropped in a lay-up on the left side off of the assist from Ryan Williams and he followed it up with a fast-break pass off of the outlet pass from Jayden Barrio, pushing their lead to, 15-8, with 2:11 to play in the first quarter. Barrio saved a ball on the defensive end to Ryan Williams, who passed it over his head down court to Green for the fast-break lay-up, as Lamesa took a time out with 1:35 to play in the quarter, trailing Littlefield, 17-8.

Out of the break, Barrio drained a three from the right elbow off of the assist from Green, but Robert Dimas took a charge on Barrio to close out the first quarter with Littlefield in front, 20-8.

Trevino and Ja’Den Williams opened the second frame with back-to-back lay-ups off of assists from each other, as Lamesa took a time out with 7:13 remaining in the first half. Out of the break, McCarty drove the middle for a lay-up and Ja’Den Williams followed it up with a tip-in off of a miss by Ryan Williams, making the score, 28-8, with under six minutes to go in the half.

Trevino grabbed a defensive rebound and got it ahead to Ryan Williams for the lay-up, as he drew an and-one foul on Robert Dimas. He missed the free throw leaving the score, 30-8. Trevino grabbed a steal on the next play in their own end and dropped it in for a lay-up, pushing their lead to, 32- 8. Jadaven Hensley dropped in a put- back to end the scoring drought for Lamesa, but Ryan Williams answered with a lay-up and McCarty followed it up with a drive and dump off to Trevino for a lay-up, extending their lead to, 36-10.

With 3:25 remaining in the half, Ryan Williams delivered a pass between two defenders to Ja’Den Williams for a lay-up, as Lamesa took a time out to talk things over. Out of the break, Hensley dropped in a lay-up for Lamesa, but Barrio answered with a drive to the basket for a lay-up and Ryan Williams followed it up with a euro-step on the next play, getting into the lane for a lay-up in transition, stretching the lead to, 42-12.

With under a 30-seconds to play in the half, Robert Dimas was fouled on an attempt by Sir Pratt, earning a trip to the line. He made the first and missed the second, but Noah Garcia was there for the offensive rebound, as he drew a foul on the put-back attempt on Pratt. He made one-of-two shots from the line, making the score, 4214. However, with time winding down in the half, Trevino dribbled up to the left elbow and knocked down a pull-up three to end the half with the Wildcats in control, 45-14.

Ryan Williams dumped the ball off to Green for a lay-up, as he drew an and-one foul on Robert Dimas. Green converted the free throw to make the score, 48-14, to open the second half. MJ Randle hit Green with an outlet pass on the fast-break for a lay-up, but on the other end, Robert Dimas was fouled on a put-back attempt by Trevino, putting him on the line for free throws. He split the attempts and Littlefield took a time out with 4:42 to play in the game, leading Lamesa, 50-15.

Out of the break, Robert Dimas dropped in a lay-up for the Golden Tornadoes, but Green answered with a three from the right corner off of the assist from Randle, pushing their lead to, 53-17. Robert Dimas responded with a three from the left elbow, but Randle answered right back with a fingerroll lay-up to make the score, 5520, with 3:07 left to play in the third.

Ryan Williams dropped in a fastbreak lay-up off of the outlet pass from Green, but Fernando Sosa answered with a lay-up in transition to trim the lead to, 57-22. Pratt dropped in a lay-up off of an assist from Ja’Den Williams, but Robert Dimas closed out the third quarter with a three from the left elbow, making the score, 59-25, going into the final quarter of play.

Barrio hit Ryan Williams with a no-look pass for a lay-up to open the final quarter and Randle followed it up with a three from the right elbow off of the assist from Barrio, pushing their lead to, 6425. With 6:11 left to play, Sosa took a charge on Ryan Williams, but Lamesa couldn’t capitalize, as Littlefield regained possession and Randle knocked down a three from the left wing, stretching their lead to, 67-25.

Lamesa dropped in a bucket and Barrioz followed it up with a three from the right elbow to cut the lead to, 67-30, but Pratt answered with a lay-up off of the assist from Josiah Garcia, making the score, 69-30. Ramos drove in for a layup, but McCarty answered with a three from the left wing off of the assist from Ja’Den Williams, extending the lead to, 72-32.

Randle took a charge on Robert Dimas, but Lamesa regained possession, as Barrioz drove in for a lay-up, making the score, 72-34. Hensley dropped in a lay-up for Lamesa, but Ja’Den Williams closed out the game with a lay-up, as the Wildcats took the contest, 74-36.

The Wildcats were led in scoring by Ryan Williams, who tallied 14 points, eight rebounds and two assists, while Green joined him in double-figures scoring with 13 points, eight rebounds and two assists. Ja’Den Williams was also in double-figures scoring with 12 points, to go along with six steals, four rebounds and two assists.

McCarty tallied nine points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals, while Randle chipped in eight points, two rebounds and one assist, and Trevino contributed seven points, six rebounds and one assist. Barrio tallied five points, four steals, three rebounds and three assists, while Pratt added four points, four rebounds, three blocks and one steal and Garcia finished with one assist.

The Wildcats hosted Friona on Friday for senior night. Results were not available at press time. They will continue their season on Tuesday with a road game against Muleshoe.
