WILDCATS FALL TO POST ON THE ROAD, 58-6

The Littlefield Wildcats struggled offensively all night on Friday, as they fell on the road to the Post Antelopes, 58- 6.

With the loss, the Wildcats fall to 1-2 overall on the season.

The Wildcats got the ball to open the contest, but were unable to get anything going offensively. Junior tailback, carried the ball on first down and senior slotback, Xavier Esquibel, got the call on second down, picking up six yards to bring up third and three.

Senior quarterback, Blake Green, hit junior, Jordan Trevino on a swing pass, but he was tackled for a loss of two, as the Wildcats went three-and-out. Senior, Chris Brown, punted the ball away with 10:05 to play in the first quarter, as Ethan Fox called for a fair catch at the Antelopes 30-yard line.

Post’s offense took the field, as Ashton Jefferson carried the ball on first down, taking it up to the Post 49-yard line to give the Antelopes a fresh set of downs. Slayden Pittman had his pass on first down broken up, looking for Josiah Ward, but on second and 10, he handed off to Nathan McDaniel, who took the ball across midfield to the Wildcats’ 41-yard line for a first down.

On first and 10, McDaniel broke loose up the middle for a 41-yard touchdown run. The PAT by Pittman was good, making the score, 7-0, with 8:45 to play in the opening quarter.

The Antelopes recovered an onside kick with 8:41 to play in the opening quarter, taking over at the Littlefield 47-yard line.

Pittman connected with Jefferson for a six-yard pass on first down and on the next play Jefferson carried the ball for a big gain, before being brought down by junior safety, Ryan West and senior cornerback, Joseph Salinas.

With a fresh set of downs at the Littlefield 22-yard line, Pittman hit McDaniel on a drag route, as he took the ball down the far sideline for an Antelope touchdown. The PAT by Pittman was good, stretching the lead to, 14-0, with 7:17 remaining in the quarter.

Esquibel took the kick-off up to the Littlefield 33-yard line, where the Wildcats’ offense took over to start their next drive. However, the offensive woes continued, as they went three-and-out with Brown punting the ball away with 5:52 remaining in the first quarter.

Post got the ball on their own 34-yard line, as Jefferson carried the ball left for a huge gain before pushed out by senior defensive end, Tyree Jones. Littlefield took a time out with 5:35 remaining in the quarter. Out of the break, the Wildcat defense came up with a big play, as Pittman was picked off on the one-yard line by Caden Longoria with 5:29 to play in the quarter.

However, the Wildcats were unable to capitalize, as Chambers was tackled in the endzone on the very next play for a safety with 5:24 remaining in the quarter, making the score, 16-0.

Brown kicked the ball away, as Post took over on the 50- yard line. Avery Clarkson carried the ball for six yards on first down and McDaniel was stopped by Jones after a gain of just one on second down, bringing up third and three from the Littlefield 43-yard line. Clarkson was tackled by Tavion Ivery for no gain on third down, bringing up a fourth and short situation for the Antelopes.

Post lined up to go for it on fourth down, as Pittman kept it himself on the read option, taking it up the left side for a 43-yard touchdown run with 3:19 to play in the quarter. The PAT was good, stretching their lead to, 23-0.

After another three-and-out by the Wildcats, Post took over at their own 44-yard line. McDaniel was tackled for a loss of two on first down by Javen Jimenez, but Jefferson got the lost yardage back on second down, bringing up a third and 10 for the Antelopes as the first quarter came to a close.

Post was flagged for a false start on fourth and six to begin the second quarter. They lined up to punt, but Pittman ran a fake and was stopped short of the sticks by Salinas for a turnover on downs with just under 12 minutes to play in the half.

Littlefield took over at the Post 46-yard line, but the drive was derailed, as Chambers was stripped on second down by Ward for a turnover, as Ward returned it to the Post 40-yard line.

The Antelopes wasted no time putting the ball in the endzone, as Jefferson took the carry on first down, taking the ball across midfield to the Littlefield 46-yard line for a first down. Clarkson picked up four yards on first down and Kenddrick Curtis took a sweep around the left side for a huge gain, giving the Antelopes a first and 10 from the Littlefield 13-yard line.

Post capped off the drive with a 13-yard touchdown run up the middle by Clarkson, making the score, 30-0, after the PAT by Pittman with 9:32 left in the first half.

The Wildcats took over at their own 34-yard line, as Chambers carried the ball for a short gain on first down. Salinas picked up a few yards on second down before being brought down by Isaiah Crawford to bring up third down, and the Wildcats were able to convert as Chambers took the ball up the middle, running over McDaniel for a first down.

Chambers picked up four yards on first down, as Post took a time out to talk things over with 7:15 to play in the second quarter. Out of the break, Chambers carried the ball on back-to-back downs, bringing up a fourth and one at the Post 40-yard line.

Littlefield lined up to go for it and Green was able to draw the defense offsides with a hard count to give the Wildcats a first down. The drive would meet an untimely end on second and five, when Green kept the ball himself for a carry around the left side, but the Antelopes forced a fumble on the play and the ball was picked up by Crawford for the 70-yard scoop and score. Pittman’s PAT was good, making the score, 37-0, with 4:45 to play in the half.

The following kick-off was muffed by Chambers and recovered by the Antelopes at the Littlefield 19-yard line. Post needed just one play to find the endzone on their next drive, as McDaniel carried the ball around the left side, breaking a would-be tackle by Longoria on his way to the endzone with 4:35 remaining in the half. The PAT was good, extending the lead to, 44-0.

The score stood going into the locker room at halftime. Out of the break, Post received to open the second half, starting their drive at their own 39-yard line. They rode Jefferson and McDaniel on the drive, capping it off with a 17-yard touchdown run by McDaniel. Pittman’s PAT was good, making the score, 51-0, with 8:27 to play in the third quarter.

Littlefield capped off an 18- play, 80-yard drive with an 11- yard touchdown run by Chambers with just under two minutes remaining in the game. Brown’s PAT was blocked, leaving the score, 51-6.

Jefferson fielded the kick-off by Brown and took it across the field and down the far sideline for an 80-yard kick-off return touchdown, putting the exclamation point on the contest. Pittman’s PAT was good, making the final score, 58-6.
