The Littlefield Wildcats’ varsity basketball team throttled the Lamesa Golden Tornadoes on Friday, 81-49, at Wildcat Gym as District play resumed.

With the win, the Wildcats improve to 18-3 overall, 1-1 in district play.

Pedro Barrioz dropped in a lay-up, drawing an and-one foul on MJ Randle to open the contest. He converted the free throw to put Lamesa in front, 3-0, but Jeremiah Trevino picked up a steal in their own end from Noah Garcia and dropped it in for a lay-up, cutting the lead to, 3-2. Robert Dimas dropped in a lay-up off of a Littlefield turnover, as Littlefield took a time out with 4:52 to play in the game, trailing, 5-2.

Out of the break, Chip green drained a three from the right elbow off of the assist from Randle to tie the game, 55, and on their next possession, Ryan Williams was fouled on an attempt by Garcia, earning a trip to the line. He made one-of-two shots from the line to give Littlefield their first lead of the game, 6-5.

Deev Lugo and Trevino exchanged lay-ups in transition, and Ryan Williams buried a three from the right wing off of the assist from Jayden Barrio, pushing their lead to, 11-7, with 2:22 to play in the opening quarter. Ryan Williams hit Omar Martinez with an outlet pass and Omar Martinez was fouled on an attempt by Dimas. He converted both shots from the line to stretch the lead to, 13-7.

Garcia dropped in a lay-up for Lamesa, but on the other end, Ja’Den Williams was fouled on an attempt by Dimas; he converted both shots from the line, pushing the lead to, 15-9, with under a minute to play in the opening quarter. Jadaven Hensley scored on a backdoor cut for a lay-up, but with time winding down in the quarter, Omar Martinez was fouled on the floor by Barrioz and split the free throws, extending their lead to, 16-11, as the first quarter came to a close.

Barrio drained a three from the left wing off of the assist from Ja’Den Williams to open the second quarter and on the next play, Barrio hit Omar Martinez with a pass, who dished it to Ja’Den Williams, who was fouled on an attempt by Hensley. He sank both shots from the line, making the score, 21-11, with 7:10 to go in the first half.

Dimas dropped in a lay-up in transition for Lamesa, but on the other end, Omar Martinez drove the lane, dumping the ball off to Ja’Den Williams, who was fouled on an attempt by Hensley. He made the first shot and missed the second, but Omar Martinez was able to grab the offensive rebound, which led to Sir Pratt getting fouled on a put-back attempt by Kaleb Ramos. Pratt made one-oftwo shots from the line, making the score, 23-13, with 5:37 to play in the half.

Garcia dished a pass down low to Ramos for a lay-up, but Barrio answered with a three from the top of the key off of the assist from Omar Martinez, forcing Lamesa to take a full time out with 4:11 left to play in the half, trailing Littlefield, 26-15. Out of the break, Robert Dimas dropped in a floater from the left side, but Littlefield again answered, as Omar Martinez buried a three from the left wing, drawing an and-one foul on the shot by Isaiah Martinez. He missed the free throw leaving the score, 29-17.

Trevino was called for a charge and Isaiah Martinez followed it up with a lay-up to make it a 10-point game, 2919, with 1:24 to play in the half. Omar Martinez banked in a floater in the lane, but Barrioz answered with a lay-up on the other end, as Lamesa took a time out with 1:09 to play in the half. Out of the break, Robert Dimas drained a three from the right elbow, but Barrio answered for Littlefield with a three of his own from the right wing, off of the assist from Ja’Den Williams, making the score, 34-24.

Richie Dimas rattled home a three from the top of the key, as the first half came to a close with Littlefield in front, 34-27.

Ryan Williams opened the third quarter with a three from the left wing off of the assist fromRandle and Trevino followed it up with a jumper from the left elbow off of the assist from Ryan Williams, stretching their lead to, 39-27. Robert Dimas dropped in a floater in the lane, but Green answered with a three from the right elbow to push their lead to, 42-29, as Lamesa took a time out with 5:27 to play in the third.

Out of the break, Barrioz knocked down a jumper in the lane and on the next play, Lamesa used a time out to prevent a turnover, after Littlefield applied the trap defense in the backcourt with 4:26 to play in the quarter. Out of the break, Garcia dropped in a lay-up, but Littlefield responded, as Omar Martinez drove the lane, dumping the ball off to Trevino for a lay-up, as he drew an and-one foul on Garcia, who picked up his third foul of the game. Trevino converted the free throw, pushing their lead to, 45-33.

The free throw was good, extending the lead to, 53-37.

Barrio picked up a steal and scoreed a lay-up in transition, drawing an andone foul on Isaiah Martinez, his third. The free throw was good from Barrio, pushing the lead to, 56-37. With time winding down in the quarter, Robert Dimas was fouled on an attempt by Ryan Williams and converted both free throws to make the score, 56-39, but Ja’Den Williams closed out the quarter with a lay-up off of the assist from Omar Martinez, making the score, 5839, going into the final quarter of play.

Barrio opened the fourth quarter with a three from the right elbow off of the assist from Ja’Den Williams and Ryan Williams followed it up with a strong take to the basket for a lay-up, making the score, 63-39. Lamesa used their last time out with 6:49 to play, and out of the break, Pratt dropped in a put-back, drawing an and-one foul on Garcia, his fourth. Pratt sank the free throw, making the score, 66-39, with 6:18 left to play in the game.

Barrioz dropped in a floater from the left side to get Lamesa going in the fourth quarter, but Randle drove the lane and dished the ball to Pratt for a lay-up, stretching their lead to, 68-41. Ja’Den Williams drove to the basket for a lay-up and a technical foul on Robert Dimas sent Green to the line for free throws. He sank both shots from the line, making the score, 72-41, with 4:42 left to play in the game.

Ryan Williams drained a three from the right elbow off of the screen from Green, extending the lead to, 75-41. With 3:26 remaining, Ramos dropped in a lay-up off of the assist from Barrioz, but Ryan Williams answered with a bucket to make the score, 77-43. Isaiah Martinez drove to the basket for a layup, but Ryan Williams answered with a lay-up of his own to make the score, 79-45, with 1:41 left to play.

Fernando Sosa knocked down a three from the left elbow for Lamesa, but on the next play, Randle was fouled on an attempt by Xavier Zorola. He converted both shots at the line to make the score, 81-48. On the other end, Hensley split a pair of free throws, as Littlefield cruised to victory over Lamesa, 81-49.

Ryan Williams tallied 19 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals, while Barrio contributed 15 points, three assists and two steals, and Ja’Den Williams chipped in 11 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals. Green notched 11 points, two assists, one rebound and one steal.

Trevino contributed nine points, seven rebounds, two steals and one assist, while Martinez tallied eight points, three assists, two rebounds and one steal. Pratt added six points and six rebounds, while Randle finished with two points, seven assists and two rebounds.

The Wildcats were at Friona on Tuesday to take on the Chieftains. Results were not available at press time. They will continue their season on Friday at home against Muleshoe.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
