WILDCATS BLAST THREE HOMERUNS IN BEATING OF CUBS, 16-4

The Littlefield Wildcats’ varsity baseball team swept the first half of district play on Tuesday night with a, 16-4, run-rule victory over the Brownfield Cubs at Wildcat Field.

With the win, the Wildcats improve to 13-6 overall, 4-0 in district play.

Littlefield junior pitcher, Ethan Garcia, made wquick work of the Cubs in the top of the first inning, as he got them to go three-up-and-three-down. The Wildcats came up to the plate to begin the bottom half of the inning, as Jordan Trevino singled to left field to lead things off.

Blake Green singled on an error by Bryson Pickett at third base to put two runners on for the Wildcats. Ethan Hackler hit a sacrifice fly ball to center field that was caught for out number one, but it was deep enough to move Trevino over to third, putting runners on the corners. Chris Brown smashed a three-run homerun over the left-center field fence to clear the bases and put the Wildcats out in front, 3-0.

Gus McNabb struck out swinging for out number two, but Ethan Garcia picked him up with a single to right field, as Joseph Salinas came on as the courtesy runner. Jonavan Weaver drew a walk and Turner Heffington followed it up with a ground rule double that bounced over the right field fence, making the score, 4-0. Jaron Cabello, though, would strike out swinging to end the inning.

In the second inning, Ethan Garcia got the lead-off man, Pickett to line out to Brown in center field for out number one and got Tucker Nelson to ground out to Hackler at third for the second out of the inning. Tristan Rivero drew a walk, but Darion Alvarado flew out to Brown in center field to retire the side.

In the bottom of the second inning, Trevino drew a lead-off walk for the Wildats, and Green promptly unloaded the bases with a two-run homerun to left-center field to extend their lead to, 6-0. Hackler drew a walk to put a runner on for Littlefield, and Brown followed it up with an RBI-triple to left-center field to make the score, 7-0.

McNabb hit a sacrifice flyball to deep righ field for out number one, but it allowed Brown to tag-up and score from third to push their lead to, 8-0. Garcia and Heffington drew walks for the Wildcats, but would be left on, as Weaver struck out looking and Cabello struck out swinging to end the inning.

Kyle Suarez drew a lead-off walk to give the Cubs a base runner in the tp of the third inning and took second on a pitch, before Zarius Garcia struck out swinging for out number one. Suarez swiped third on a pitch, before Nick Holguin hit a grounder to Hackler at third, who got the out at first, as Suarez scored on the throw, making the score, 8-1, with two outs. Ashton Ryan drew a walk for the Cubs, but Ethan Garcia got Zavier Garcia to fly out to Brown in center field to retire the side. Rivero on the mound for Brownfield, as he gave up a lead-off walk to Trevino. Green struck out swigning for out number one, but Hackler drew a walk and Trevino took third on a pitch, before Brown ripped an RBI-double into right field to make the score, 9-1.

McNabb hit a grounder deep in the hole to shortstop and beat the throw to first, as Hackler scored and Brown advanced to third on the play, pushing their lead out to, 10-1. Ethan Garcia drew a walk, as Salinas came on as the courtesy runner and Weaver hit a two-RBI shot down the third-base line to make the score, 12-1.

Heffington hit a sacrifice flyball to right field that allowed Salinas to tag-up and score to extend the lead to, 13-1, with two outs. Cabello hit a hard shot up the middle and beat thte throw to first, as another run crossed the plate for the Wildcats making the score, 14-1, but Trevino would strike out swinging to end the rally for the Wildcats.

The Cubs went three-up-and-three-down in the top of the foruth inning, and Pickett relieved Anthony on the mound for the Cubs in the bottom half of the inning.

Alex Carrillo hit a lead-off double to left field, but Tavion Ivery popped up to Alvarado at second base for out number one. Brown launched a two-run home run over the center-field fence to stretch their lead to, 16-1, but Davin Saldana popped up to Pickett behind the mound for out number two.

Ethan Garcia hit a chopper to Alvarado at second base, but the throw to first was dropped by Nelson to give the Wildcats a base runner. However, PJ Cruz would pop up behind second base to end the inning.

The Cubs added three runs in the top of the fifth inning, but the Wildcats took their first meeting with Brownfield, 16-4.

Garcia pitched a complete game for the Wildcats giving up just four runs and four walks, while earning two strike outs.

The Wildcats were at Denver City on Saturday for their second meeting with the Mustangs. Results were not available at press time. They will continue their season on Tuesday with a non-district game against Trinity Christian.

First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
