The Sudan Hornets’ varsity football team suffered their first loss of the season on Friday, as they fell on the road to the Sundown Roughnecks, 59-15. They look to bounce back this week, as they turn their attention to the Farwell Steers.

“We knew going into that game that it was going to be tough,” Head Coach John Cornelius, said. “At the same time, those types of games give you an opportunity to identify some weaknesses and fix some things that aren’t always obvious.”

He added, “Offensively, we just aren’t executing at a very high level. We have to find a way to be more efficient and not make so many mistakes.”

The Coach talked about what they are going to have to do against Farwell, saying, “Defensively, we are going to have to be locked in a little better and make sure we are running to the football. They like to run the ball, but they also have two big explosive receivers on the outside. The main thing is going to be limiting the explosive plays and finding a way to get off the field early in drives.”

He added, “Farwell’s quarterback and their two receivers are very good football players. They have a freshman running back that is very talented. On the defensive side of the ball, their inside linebackers cause a lot of havoc.”

The Coach said he feels the keys to victory will continue to be limit big plays by their offense and take care of the ball by our offense.

“It will be a four-quarter battle no doubt,” he stated.

Kick-off is slated for 7 p.m. at Hornet Field.
