OLTON BLASTS TEXICO ON THE ROAD,56-22

The Olton Mustangs’ varsity football team traveled to New Mexico on Saturday morning and took down Texico, 56-22.

With the win, the Mustangs improved to 2-1 overall on the season.

Josh Marquez opened the scoring in the first quarter for Olton with a two-yard touchdown run, but the PAT by Logan Lassiter was no good, leaving the score, 6-0. Texico would respond later in the quarter with a three-yard touchdown run to tie the game, 6-6, as the opening quarter came to a close.

Texico opened the second quarter with a 61-yard passing touch down to take the lead, 14-6, after the successful two-point conversion, making the score, 14-6. The Mustangs would take over, as Josue Castro-Barajas answered with a 12-yard rushing touchdown and punched in the two-point conversion to tie the game, 14-14.

Castro-Barajas would make it three consecutive scores for the Mustangs, as he scored on an 18-yard run and a five-yard run to extend the Olton lead to, 28-14. Andrew Martinez would close out the first half with a pick-six, which was followed with the PAT by Lassister to make the score, 35-14, with Olton out in front heading into the locker room at halftime.

Jake Soliz scored the lone touchdown of the third quarter, when he caught an 11-yard touchdown from Lassiter, making the score, 42-14, heading into the final quarter of play.

Texico would score on a 28-yard passing play to open the fourth quarter, but Olton would answer, as Eric Valencia caught a 34-yard touchdown from Lassiter and on their next possession, Lassiter punched in a three-yard touchdown run, as Olton took down Texico, 56-22.

The Mustangs tallied 378 yards of offense, including, 180 passing yards and 198 rushing yards. finishing the day 16-18 for 140 yards and two touchdowns, while adding six carries for 28 yards and one touchdown.

In the rushing attack, Castro-Barajas led the charge with 24 carries for 140 yards and three touchdowns, while Josh Marquez tal lied five carries for 27 yards and one touchdown.

In the receiving game, Valencia finished with six catches for 100 yards and one touchdown, while Soliz tallied five catches for 33 yards and one touchdown and Martinez contributed three catches for 33 yards. Brennon Huguley also had two catches for 14 yards in the contest.

Defensively, the Mustangs recorded four sacks, had four interceptions and two fumble recoveries.
