Mustangs take down Crosbyton, 25-2

The Olton Mustangs’ varsity baseball team run- ruled the Crosbyton Chieftains on Thursday, 25-2, at the Shorty Barlow Springlake-Earth Baseball Classic.

Brody Langford got the Mustangs going in the top of the first inning with a single to left field, as Jake Soliz came on as the courtesy runner for the pitcher. Soliz took second on a pitch, before Logan Lassiter ripped an RBI-triple to the center-field fence; he scored on a throw into the dugout to make the score, 2-0.

Adolfo Garcia singled up the middle and took second on a pitch, before Cole Montgomery singled to left field, putting runners on the corners for Olton. Grady Roberts came on as the courtesy runner for the catcher. Garcia scored on a pats ball, as Roberts advanced to second on the play, and Brennon Huguley followed it up with a rip to left-center field for an RBIdouble to stretch their lead to, 4-0.

Paul Lopez singled to left field, putting runners on the corners again for the Mustangs and he took second on a pitch, before Fabian Gutierrez hit an RBI-single to left field to push their lead to, 50, with no outs. Victor Reyes was tagged out on a dropped third strike by the catcher for out number one, but Jacob Marquez drew a walk to load the bases.

Langford was called out on an infield fly, but it fell in front of the second baseman, as Gutierrez advanced to third and Huguley scored, making the score, 6-0, with two outs. Lassiter ripped a two-RBI triple into right-center field to extend their lead to, 8-0, but Garcia flew out to David Scott in left field to retire the side.

Langford got the Chieftains to go three-up-and-three-down in the bottom half of the first, as Dylass Doss flew out to Eric Valencia in center field and Marco Reyna and Matthew Guerrero both struck out swinging to end the inning.

Montgomery popped up to Matthew Guerrero at third base to begin the second inning, but Huguley singled to right field, as Valencia came on to run. Valencia took second on a pitch, before Lopez flew out to Scott in left field for out number two. Valencia took third on a pitch, before Gutierrez hit a short pop up over the mound for an RBI-single to extend their lead to, 9-0.

Gutierrez took second on a pitch, before Reyes ripped an RBItriple to left field that got under the glove of Scott, making the score, 10-0. Marquez, though, would ground out to Matthew Guerrero at third base to retire the side.

Lopez relieved Langford on the mound in the bottom of the second inning, as he got Marcos Guerrero to strike out swinging for out number one. Julian Savedra struck out looking for out number two and Michael Reyes to strike out swinging to end the inning.

Langford doubled to shallow center field, as Roberts came on as the courtesy runner to begin the third inning. Lassiter grounded out to Matthew Guerrero at third for out number one, but Garcia singled to left field to drive in a run, stretching the lead to, 11-0. Montgomery drew a walk, as Reyna relieved Reyes on the mound for Crosbyton.

Garcia was thrown out at home trying to score on a past ball, but Valencia was hit by a pitch to put runners on the corners with two outs. Valencia took second on a past ball and Montgomery scored on another past ball, moving Valencia up to third with the score, 12-0. Lopez drew a walk to put runners on the corners, as Soliz came on as the courtesy runner for the pitcher.

Jaxon Tomsu drew a walk to load the bases, as Scott relieved Reyna on the mound. Valencia scored on a wild pitch, before Nathan Urbina struck out looking to retire the side with the Mustangs leading, 13-0.

In the bottom of the third inning, Scott singled to center field to lead things off for Crosbyton, but Bam Marquez lined out to Tomsu at second base for out number one. Adam Barela was hit by a pitch, but Lopez got Cole Davis to strike out swinging for out number two. Reyna drew a walk to load the bases for the Chieftains, but Lopez left them full, as he got Matthew Guerrero to strike out swinging for out number three to end the inning.

The Mustangs scratched 12 runs across in the top of the fourth inning, and gave up just two in the bottom half of the fourth, before time expired, giving them the win, 25-2.
