Lady Cats notch first win of season over Wildorado

The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity volleyball team picked up their first win of the season on Tuesday over Wildorado, 2-0.

With the win, the Lady Cats improve to 1-2 overall on the season.

Littlefield found themselves in an, 0-5, hole to start set one, before a serve from Sonell VanWyk sailed out of bounds making the score, 1-5. The Lady Mustangs would answer, as Bailee McAlister dropped a kill on the back line to push their lead to, 1-6. Wildorado could not capitalize, though, as Falon Rendon sent a hit out of bounds on the next play, turning the serve back over to Littlefield with the score, 2-6.

Kaeleigh Logan sent a serve short of the net and Rendon followed it up with an ace for Wildorado, before Kyndal Edgemon answered with a kill for the Lady Cats off of VanWyk, making the score, 3-8. Wildorado responded with a kill by Brighton off of Abigail Ybarbo, but Brighton’s hit on the next play landed out of bounds, making the score, 4-9.

Madison McNeese would give the Lady Cats a five-point rally, tying the game with an ace off of VanWyk, knotting things up at, 9-9, as Wildorado took a time out to talk things over. Out of the break, Wildorado was called for an illegal hit, giving the Lady Cats their first lead of the game, 10-9. Jisella Segovia was blocked by Kenzie Jordan for a kill and McNeese followed it up with back-to-back aces to push the Littlefield lead to, 13-9.

The Lady Cats added three more points, before Jisella Segovia sent a kill past McNeese to end the rally, making the score, 16-10. Littlefield would bound right back, as Julie Bownds fired a kill past Jovi Perkins, making the score, 17-10, as Littlefield got the serve back. Wildorado scored back-to-back points off of Littlefield miscues, but a tip by Logan on the next play hit the court for a kill, as Brighton couldn’t get to it for the dig.

VanWyk was blocked by Logan, but the ball landed out of bounds for a Wildorado point. VanWyk followed it up with an ace in front of Logan on the next serve and Bryndle Ray sent a hit into the net on the following play, cutting their lead to, 18-15. The teams exchanged points, before Jisella Segovia was blocked by McNeese for a kill, pushing their lead back out to, 20-16.

Wildorado would make it a twopoint game with back-to-back points, but on the next play, a tip by ray was hit into the net by Eva Albracht. Littlefield couldn’t capitalize, as Bri Valdez sent her serve short of the net, and back-to-back hits out of bounds by McNeese had the set tied, 21-21.

Littlefield took a time out to talk things over, and out of the break, Jordan tipped the net for a kill to give the Lady Cats a one-point advantage, 22-21. The teams went back-and-forth with Wildorado taking a one-point lead, 23-24, on a hit out of bounds by Logan. The Lady Cats took another time out, and out of the break, Rendon sent back-to-back hits out of bounds, putting the Lady Cats back in front, 25-24. Ray sent a tip into the net, but Wildorado gave the serve right back to Littlefield, as VanWyk’s serve sailed into the net, making the score, 26-25.

Wildorado took a time out to try and regain their composure, and out of the break, a save by Ray went over the net, but landed out of bounds, tying the set once more, 26-26. Logan answered with a tip for a kill, but the Lady Cats could not close the door, as Ray sent a tip into the net on the next play, making the score, 27-27. A tip by Edgemon was hit out of bounds by Reyna Segovia and she sent a tip into the net on the next play, as Littlefield took set one, 29-27.

Littlefield opened set two in a, 0-1, hole, but after a hit by the Lady Mustangs sailed out of bounds, Bownds followed it up with an ace off of Reyna Segovia to put the Lady Cats in front, 2-1. Her next serve landed short of the net to tie the set, but McAlister’s serve on the next play sailed over the back boundary line, putting Littlefield back in front, 3-2.

Edgemon followed it up with a kill at the net, off of a long dig from Perkins, but her next kill attempt landed out of bounds, making the score, 4-3.

The teams went back-and-forth until a kill by Reyna Segovia sparked a five-point rally that ended when her serve landed out of bounds, making the score, 6-11. McNeese sent a serve into the net and Valdez was called for being across the net on a set, making the score, 6- 13. Kennadi Hanlin sent a hit short of the net, but Wildorado couldn’t capitalize, as Jisella Segovia’s serve, too, was short of the net, making the score, 7-14.

VanWyk was blocked by Bownds for a kill and McAlister sent a hit sailing out of bounds on the next play, making the score, 9-14. A pair of Wildorado miss-fires and an ace from Hanlin, had the Lady Cats within two points of the lead, before a kill attempt by Bownds landed out of bounds, making the score, 12-15. Littlefield would tie things up a few plays later, as McNeese delivered a kill on the sideline, knotting things up, 16-16. Bownds followed it up with an ace off of Morgan Haschke and McAlister’s tip on the following play fell short of the net, making the score, 18-16.

Bownds kept it going with an ace in front of Haschke, before sending her next serve out of bounds, making the score, 19-17. McAlister sent a serve short of the net for Wildorado and a tip on the next play by Ray was misplayed by VanWyk, pushing the Littlefield lead to, 21-17, Wildorado would not go down easy, as they rallied back to tie the set, 21-21, on an ace by Rendon. However Littlefield would go on a, 4-1, rally, with Bownds delivering a kill at the net off of a dig by VanWyk, to close the set, 25-22.

The Lady Cats will return to the court on Aug. 18th when they host the Littlefield Tournament. Schedules for that tournament have not been released.
