Lady Cats go 2-2 at Tahoka Tournament

The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity softball team went 2-2 at the Tahoka Tournament on Thursday and Friday for their first tournament of the season.

In their tournament- opener against the host team Tahoka, the Lady Cats fell into a, 4-1, hole in the first inning, before the Lady Bulldogs, pounded out 11 runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a, 15-4, lead into the third inning.

The Lady Cats scratched three runs across in the top of the third inning and five in the top of the fourth, but fell short in their comeback efforts, dropping the contest, 16-12.

Lyric Rios pitched two innings for the Lady Cats giving up two runs and two walks, while earning one strike out. Cadence Sanchez put in one inning of work giving up 14 runs and two walks, while earning one strike out.

Offensively, the Lady Cats were led by Bryndle Ray, who went 3-3 at the plate with a single, a double and three RBI’s. Natalia Sanchez was also 3-3 at the plate with three singles and one RBI. Taryn Golden was 3-3 with two singles and a double and one RBI, while Rios went 2-3 with a single, a double and three RBI’s.

In their second game on Thursday, the Lady Cats took on the Ralls Lady Rabbits.

Ralls jumped out to a, 4-3, lead in the first inning, and the Lady Rabbits added two runs in the second frame to take a, 6-3, lead into the third inning.

Littlefield added one run in the top of the third and fourth innings, but Ralls crossed two more runs in the bottom of the third, as Littlefield fell to the Lady Rabbits, 8-5.

NataliaSanchez pitched four innings giving up eight runs and four walks, while earning one punch out. Cali Saldana also pitched 0.1 innings for the Lady Cats.

At the plate, Natalia Sanchez was 1-3 with a double and two RBI’s, while Golden was 1-3 with a double and one RBI and Cadence Sanchez was 1-2 with a double.

The Lady Cats got back on track on Friday as they pushed nine runs across in the bottom of the first inning against Sudan. The Lady Cats added one run in the second inning, three in the third inning and two in the fourth inning, as they closed out the shutout over the Nettes.

Rios pitched four scoreless innings earning four punch outs, while giving up three walks.

Cadence Sanchez went 3-3 at the plate, with three singles and one RBI, while Alyssa Torres went 2-3 with two singles, two RBI’s and a walk. Alex Hernandez went 2-4 with a single, a double and two RBI’s and Natalia Sanchez was 24 with two singles and two RBI’s. Mykenzie Price also went 1-4 with a double and two RBI’s.

In their final game of the tournament against Denver City, the Lady Cats jumped out to an early lead in the first inning, 4-2. Both teams added three runs in the second frame, but the Lady Cat defense shut out the Fillies the rest of the way, as the offense added four runs in the third inning and one run in the fourth to take the contest, 12-5.

Saldana pitched four innings giving up five runs, while earning one strike out.

Natalia Sanchez went 3-3 at the plate with a single, two homeruns and seven RBI’s, while Cadence Sanchez was 1- 3 with one homerun, one walk and one RBI, and Golden was 2-3 with a single, a double and two RBI’s.

The Lady Cats were back in action Tuesday afternoon, as they traveled to Roosevelt to take on the Lady Eagles. Results were not available at press time.
