Lady Cat volleyball season comes to close in Area round

The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity volleyball team saw their season come to an end in the Class 3A Area round of the play-offs, as they fell to the Bushland Lady Falcons on Tuesday in Hereford, 0-3.

The Lady Falcons made quick work of the Lady Cats in set one, taking the opening set, 3-25.

Sophomore, Madison McNeese, hit a ball out of bounds to open set two, but Logan Culpepper’s next serve was short of the net, making the score, 1-1. Junior, Ashtyn Parker, was blocked at the net for a kill and Hallie Conklin followed it up with a kill for the Lady Falcons to extend their lead to, 1-3.

Kinley Rudder’s next serve, though, fell short of the net, turning the serve back over to Littlefield with the score, 2-3. Bushland would rally for three consecutive points, before Parker delivered a kill to stop the run, making the score, 3-6.

Senior captain, Geyah Garza, sent a hit into the net and the Lady Falcons followed it up with a kill off of McNeese, making the score, 3-8. Taryn Shultz served up an ace off of Garza and on the next play, Parker was blocked by Bushland for a kill, extending the lead to, 3-10.

A hit by Parker was landed out of bounds, last touched by Shultz, but Littlefield hit a ball out of bounds on the next play to make the score, 4-11. Conklin served up an ace in front of junior, Emily Champion and Littlefield tipped a ball out of bounds on the next play to make the score, 4-13.

Littlefield picked up a kill, but it was quickly answered by Rudder to extend the lead back out to, 5-14. Millie Maupin served up an ace and on the next play a hit went out of bounds off of senior, Hannah the 5-16.

Sophomore, Kaeleigh Logan, hit a ball over the back line and junior, Ellie Lopez, sent a hit out of bounds to extend the Bushland lead to, 5-18, but a hit out of bounds by the Lady Falcons on the next play sent the serve back over to Littlefield.

Rudder scored back-to-back kills for the Lady Falcons and Culpepper followed it up with an ace to make the score, 6-21. The Lady Falcons were able to close out the set with four consecutive points to take set two, 6-25.

In set three, a block by McNeese and senior, Samira Medina, landed out of bounds for a Bushland point and a hit out of bounds by McNeese on the next play, had the Lady Cats in a, 0-2 hole.

Maupin was called for a net vio-lation, but Rudder came back with a kill for the Lady Falcons, making the score, 1-3. Parker answered for Littlefield with a block fora kill and Garza followed it up with a tip for a kill to tie the set, 3-3 Bushland regained the serve with a kill in front of Julie Rodriguez, making the score, 3-4.

Culpepper served up an ace in front of Rodriguez and McNeese was called for a lift on the next play to make the score, 3-6. Culpepper followed it up with a tip for a kill for Bushland, but on the following play, Rudder was blocked by Shamicha Wilson and Garza for a kill to trim the lead to, 4-6.

A block by Garza hit the court for a Bushland point. A few plays later, Rudder sent a serve long to make the score, 6-8, as the serve went back to Littlefield. Bushland tried a shot from the far side, but it didn’t fall, however they would score on the next play and follow it up with an ace off of McNeese, making the score, 7-10.

Bushland sent a hit out of bounds long, but they would answer with eight consecutive points, before they sent a hit out of bounds, making the score, 9-17.

The Lady Falcons would close out the set with another eightpoint scoring run to take set three, 9-25, and the match, 0-3.
