The Littlefield Wildcats’ JV football team stretched their winning streak to three games on Thursday, as they defended their home turf against the Post Antelopes with a, 36-12, victory.

With the win, the Wildcats JV squad improves to 3-0 overall on the season.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Wildcat offense got things rolling. With 8:03 remaining in the first half, Littlefield quarterback, Nate Castaneda, connected with Brayden Redman for a 15-yard passing touchdown to put the Wildcats up, 6-0. The PAT snap was bobbled by Redman, who picked it up and tried to run it in, but he was stripped at the goal line by Post and the play was blown dead leaving the score, 6-0, in favor of the Wildcats.

The Antelopes got the ball at their own 43-yard line to start their next drive, but despite good field position, the Wildcat’s defense forced a punt to get the ball back for their offense. The Wildcats would not waste the opportunity, as they got down into the red zone, Castaneda connected with Jose Payan for a touchdown pass on the far sideline with 4:12 left to play in the half. The snap on the PAT was fumbled, leaving the score, 12-0.

Post would not go down easy, as they struck back with 2:44 to play in the half. The Antelopes connected for a 75-yard passing touchdown down the right side of the field and the two-point conversion run was good, slicing the lead to, 12-8.

Littlefield got the ball back, but their drive was derailed by a turnover with 1:27 remaining in the first half. However, the Antelopes would take the four-point deficit into halftime with the Wildcats leading, 12-8.

Out of the intermission, Zane Champion got the Wildcats on the board in the second half with a 10yard touchdown run with 8:11 to play in the third quarter. The twopoint conversion run by Champion was stopped short of the goal line, making the score, 18-8. The Littlefield defense followed suit and forced an Antelope Punt on Post’s first offensive possession of the second half.

The Wildcats wasted no time finding the end zone again, as Castaneda connected with Aaron Chapman for a 50-yard touchdown pass to stretch their lead to, 24-8, with 6:12 remaining in the third quarter. After another Post Punt the Wildcats would close out the third quarter with another touchdown pass, this one a 13-yard screen from Castaneda to Chapman, who got some good blocks down field on his way to the end zone, making the score, 30-8, heading into the final quarter of play.

Littlefield got the ball back to start the fourth quarter, and Champion capped off the drive with a one-yard touchdown run, but he was stuffed on the two-point conversion, leaving the score, 36-8, with 9:18 remaining in the contest.

Post would add another score late in the quarter on a one-yard touchdown pass to the right side, making the score, 36-18, after the two-point conversion, but the Wildcats would put the game away to win their third contest of the season.

The JV Wildcats will go on the road next Thursday to take on Lamesa.

Kick-off is set for 5 p.m.
