The Sudan Hornets’ varsity football team is coming off of a, 32-7, loss to Farwell in their homeopener on Friday, as they look to turn their attention to their neutral site game against Stamford at Floydada.
“We feel like we are seeing improvement every week, that improvement just hasn’t translated into wins yet,” Head Coach John Cornelius said.
He added, “A lot of our struggles offensively can be attributed to playing against two really good defenses the last two weeks. We still are having too many penalties and untimely turnovers. Those mistakes need to stop.”
Coach Cornelius talked about their match-up with Stamford, saying, “Stamford is a really fast and explosive team. Ryheem Smith is their go-to receiver and he is tall and very fast. We will have to know where he is at all times.”
He added, “Their quarterback, Zhawn Holden, is also scary. He can hurt you with his legs and his arm. We are improving defensively every week. We will have to do a good job of limited the big play against Stamford.”
The coach said that he feels the keys to getting a victory are going to be that they have to take care of the ball, sustain drives, and limit Stamford’s explosive plays.”
Kick-off is slated for 7 p.m. at Whirlwind Stadium in Floydada.
