The Olton Fillies’ varsity volleyball team fell to the Abernathy Lady Lopes on the road last Tuesday, 0-3.
Tatum Bailey had a hit blocked by Kaleigh Geldenhuys for a kill, but Abernathy would answer on the next play, as Gretchen Shipley delivered a kill off of Amethyst Huerta to tie the set, 1-1. Emma Revilla followed it up with a kill that sparked an eight-point rally for the Lady Lopes that ended when Zayda Gonzalez delivered a kill in front of the block attempt by Daphne Moore, making the score, 29.
HalleeKate Huguley served up back-to-back aces for Olton, but Gonzalez sent a kill into the net for the Fillies, making the score, 4-10. Henley Stoerner hit a ball into the net, but Abernathy responded on the next play with a kill from Moore, sparking another three-point rally for the Lady Lopes, making the score, 5-13.
Emilee Synatschk dropped in a tip for a kill and Geldenhuys followed it up with an ace to trim the lead to, 7-13. Smith delivered a kill off of Abernathy, but on the next play, Huerta sent a hit out of bounds making the score, 8-14. Barbara Gallegos had a hit blocked by Bryleigh Beyers for a kill, but on the next play, Smith delivered a kill in front of the block attempt by Stoerner, cutting the lead to, 9-15.
Kaybree Ramon served up an ace in front of Stoemer and Synatschk followed it up with a kill past the block attempt by Beyers, slicing the lead to, 11-15. Abernathy sent a hit into the net, before Shipley delivered a kill off of Ramon to regain the serve, stretching their lead to, 12-16. A dig by Geldenhuys made it over the net, but landed out of bounds on the sideline, but Abernathy couldn’t capitalize, as Revilla sent the next serve short of the net, trimming the lead to, 13-17.
Synatschk and Beyers each sent a serve off of the mark and Bailey had a tip land out of bounds on the sideline, making the score, 15-18. Olton rallied backto tie the set, 18-18, as a tip by Geldenhuys was hit into the net by Revilla. Shipley sent a kill over Smith, but her next serve fell short of the net, keeping the set tied, 19-19.
Scotlann Bickel sent a hit into the net for Abernathy, but on the next play, a dig from Gallegos landed out of bounds knotting the set, 2020. Abernathy would close out the set on a, 2-5, run a tip by Geldenhuys was blocked by Beyers for a kill, giving Abernathy the set, 22-25.
The Lady Lopes opened set two on a, 0-5, scoring run, before Shipley sent a serve out of bounds on the sideline. Abernathy would regain the serve, after Moore delivered a kill in the back corner to make the score, 1 -6. Bailey served up an ace for Abernathy, but she was called for a carry on the next play, making the score, 2-7.
Huguley served up an ace off of Shipley, but the Lady Lopes responded on the next play, as Moore scored a kill to make the score, 3-8. Huerta dug out a serve by Moore, but nobody reacted to it, extending the score to, 3-9. Gallegos sent a hit into the net for Olton, sparking a three-point rally for Abernathy, pushing their lead to, 3-12.
Gallegos answered with back-to-back kills, but Abernathy would regain the serve on the next play, after some miss communication by Olton, making the score, 5-13. Bickel sent a serve sailing out of bounds and Synatschk had a tip hit out of bounds by Shipley to cut the lead to, 7-13. Gallegos delivered a kill off of Lilyanna Adames, but the Fillies couldn’t capitalize, as Geldenhuys sent a hit out of bounds on the sideline, making the score, 8-14.
Shipley sent a kill out of bounds for Abernathy and Synatschk followed it up with a kill to make the score, 10-14. The Lady Lopes answered, as Smith was blocked by Beyers for a kill, sparking a three-point rally for Abernathy. The rally ended when the Lady Lopes were called for four hits, making the score, 1117.
Moore answered with a kill off of Synat schk, sparking a five-point rally, before a hit by Huguley was hit out of bounds by Shay Mulcoclc trimming the lead to, 12-22. Moore sent a kill out of bounds, but Olton couldn’t capitalize, as Smith sent a serve short of the net, making the score, 13-23.
Olton would battle back to make the score, 16-24, after a serve from Moore fell short of the net, but on the next play, Beyers delivered a kill off of Gonzalez to give Abernathy set two, 16-25, putting them in front, 0-2.
The Lady Lopes took an, 0-2, lead to open the third set, before Bickel sent a serve out of bounds, making the score, 1-2. Olton scored a kill before Huguley sent a serve out of bounds, making the score, 2-3.
Bailey sent a serve out of bounds on the sideline to tie the set, 3-3, and Bickel sent a tip short of the net to put Olton in front, 4-3.
Gallegos delivered a kill off of Bickel and Moore’s block attempt, but on the next play, Ramon was called for a double hit, trying to play the ball off of the net, making the score, 5-4.
Adames sent a serve short of the net, but Stoerner answered with a kill off of the block attempt by Smith, making the score, 6-5.
Abernathy sent back-toback hits out of bounds, before Stoerner delivered a kill off of the block attempt by Smith and Synatschk, making the score, 8-6. Beyers delivered a tip off of Synatchk for a kill, sparking a four-point rally for the Lady Lopes to give them the lead, 8-10.
Smith would answer with a Id 11 off of the block attempt by Bailey and Beyers, but Abernathy fired right back, as Beyers tipped the net for a kill, sparking a five-point rally, before Olton called for a time out, trailing, 9-15.
Out of the break, Gonzalez scored a kill in the back corner, but on the next play, Huguley was blocked by Bailey for a kill, sparking a four-point rally for the Lady Lopes.
Gallegos scored a kill on the sideline to end the rally, and Shipley sent a hit into the net on the next play to make the score, 12-19. Gonzalez had a tip hit into the net by Revilla, but the next serve from Huguley sailed out of bounds, turning the serve back over to Abernathy. The Lady Lopes would close out the set on a, 5-1 scoring run to take set three, 15-25, and the match, 0-3.
