Fillies compete at Lockney Softball Tourney

The Olton Fillies’ varsity softball team competed at the Lockney Tournament this past weekend, where they went 1-4.

The Fillies sit at 3-6 overall on the season.

In their first contest against Kress on Thursday morning, the Fillies rallied past the Lady Roos, 15-10.

The Fillies scratched five runs in the top of the first inning, but Kress answered in the bottom half of the inning, pushing nine runs across to take a four-run lead into the second inning.

Olton, though, would battle back, as they pushed 10 runs across in the top of the second inning to make the score, 15-9. In the bottom half of the inning, Olton held Kress to one run as time expired to take the game, 15-10.

Olton totaled 10 hits in the contest. Emma Acker tallied two hits including a double and three RBI’s, while Denise Avendano chipped in one hit, two walks and one RBI. Aracely Guerrero tallied two walks and an RBI, while Macie Reese contributed one hit and an RBI and Kaitlyn Avalos finished with two hits and a walk.

In the circle, Avendano pitched one inning giving up three hits, eight walks and nine runs, while earning one strikeout. Acker pitched one inning giving up one run and three walks, while earning one strikeout.

The Fillies suffered their first loss of the tournament against the Memphis Cyclones in game two on Thursday afternoon, 16-0.

Memphis scored two runs in both the bottom of the first and second innings, before pushing 12 runs across in the bottom of the third to run-rule the Fillies, 16-0.

Acker pitched 2.2 innings, giving up eight hits, nine walks and 13 runs, while earning three strikeouts. Avendano gave up one hit and three runs in the circle.

At the plate, Kaleigh Geldenhuys tallied one walk.

In game three on Friday morning, Olton fell to New Home, 22-2.

The Fillies held the Lady Leopards to three runs in the top of the first inning, before getting two back in the bottom half of the inning, cutting the lead to, 3-2.

New Home, though, would rally for 19 runs in the top of the second inning and they held Olton scorless in the bottom half of the second inning to take the contest, 22-2.

In the circle, Acker threw 1.2 innings, giving up 12 walks and 16 hits.

At the plate, Acker had one hit including a triple and one RBI, while Kaitlyn Avalos had one hit and one walk. Rebekka Lopez and Barbara Gallegos each went 1-1 at the plate also.

In their fourth game of tournament play on Friday, the Fillies fell to Petersburg, 11-6.

Olton jumped out in front, 4-1, in the first inning, but the Lady Buffaloes answered in the top of the second inning with eight runs, while holding the Fillies to just one in the bottom half of the second, making the score, 9-5. Petersburg would outscore Olton, 11-5, in the third inning to take the contest, 20-10.

Emma pitched one inning in the circle, giving up five walks, three hits and five runs, while Avendano pitched two innings, giving up 13 walks, eight hits and 15 runs,w hile earning one strikeout.

At the plate, Geldenhuys had one hit and one walk, including a triple and one RBI, while Avendano tallied two walks and one RBI. Gallegos chipped in two walks and one RBI, while Aracely Avalos finished with one walk and one RBI.

In their final game of the tournament on Saturday, Olton fell to the host team Lockney, 27-2.

Olton scored two runs in the top of the first inning, but Lockney answered with 12 runs in the bottom half of the first inning and 15 runs in the bottom half of the second inning.

Acker pitched one inning in the circle, giving up 11 hits, eight walks and 17 runs, while earning two strikeouts. Avendano pitched 0.2 innings, giving up 11 runs, seven hits and four walks.

At the plate, Lopez had one hit for a double and two RBI’s, while Kaitlyn Avalos and Acker each tallied one walk.
