The Anton Bulldogs were defanged 48-0 by a stifling Kingdom Prep Academy Warrior defense in UIL six- man high school football action in Anton last Friday.

The Bulldogs were held to 89 yards total offense and only got past their own 30 yard line once, on the last drive of the game.

The Warriors scored on every drive except the last, when they chose the victory formation with only just over a minute left in the game.

Kingdom Prep had a short field on each possession, with the longest being 37 yards after a safety and Anton kick.

That resulted in 88 yards rushing and 29 passing for the Warriors.

The Bulldogs were finally able to move the ball on the last drive of the night. Anton took over on their own nine yard line with 5:31 left in the game.

A 13 yard carry by Autilano Castillo and six yard run by Gavin Martinez gave the Bulldogs a first down on their own 28 yard line – the first of the night.

An illegal block by Kingdom Prep moved the chains again, this time to the Warrior 31 yard line. Castillo’s run went nowhere, as did Martinez’ attempt on second down.

Dominic Gaitan’s pass attempt to Jose Avalos fell short, putting the Bulldogs in a fourth down and 15 situation.

Then Gaitan found Damien Thomas open for 29 yard and a first down and goal on the Kingdom Prep two yard line.

Two Anton attempts to hammer in put the Bulldogs at third down an inches when disaster struck on third down. A bobbled snap in the backfield turned into a fumble that was recovered by the Warriors with 1:09 left in the game.

As the Bulldogs were out of timeouts, all that remained was for the Warriors to run out the clock with the victory formation.

Gaitan was 2-for-6 for 28 yards and an interception, Thomas was 2-for-2 for four yards.

Castillo had six carries for 20 yards. Martinez had four carries for 17 yards, while Gaitan had five carries, also for 17 yards. Thomas had six carries for three yards.

Thomas had a 29 yard catch. Avalos had a five yard catch. Gaitan and Martinez each had a catch for minus one yard each.

The Bulldogs traveled to Whiteface on Friday to face the Antelopes. Results were not available at press time.
