ANTON BULLDOGS FALL SHORT AGAINST HART, 58-32

The Anton Bulldogs gave up 30 unanswered points in the first and second quarters on their way to a 58-32 loss to the Hart Longhorns in UIL high school six-man football action last Friday.

Hart led 30-0 midway through the second quarter when Dominic Gaitan found Joe Whillock open for a 15 yard touchdown.

The Bulldogs scored twice more in the quarter. The first was on a pass from Gavin Martinez to Gaitan for 16 yards and the second was a 28 yard run by Martinez as the half came to a close. The Bulldogs trailed 30-20 at half-time.

Anton cut the lead to 30-26 on a pass from Martinez to Autilano Castillo and managed to take a 32-30 lead a few minutes later on a Castillo 64 yard run.

Hart answered with a touchdown of their own late in the quarter. Then scored three more in the fourth quarter for insurance.

Martinez went 4-for-12 for 94 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. Gaitan went 4-for-8 for 27 yards and a touchdown.

Martinez had 29 carries for 145 yards and a touchdown. Castillo had five carries for 64 yards and a touchdown. Noah Salsman had three carries for 16 yards. Gaitan had a single carry for minus one yard.

Whillock had four catchs for 63 yard and a touchdown. Castillo had a single 39 yard touchdown catch. Gaitan had two catches for 22 yards and a touchdown.

Jose Avalos had 10 tackles. Whillock had 8 ½. Slade Hodges had six. Gaitan had 5 ½. Castillo had 4 ½.

Brandon Thomas had 3 ½. Martinez had two. Salsman had one.

Whillock went 1-for-5 extrapoint kicks. Anton hosts Kress to open district play on Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
