The collective “whoosh” sweeping across the nation this month is the sound of school leaders exhaling, most of them having awarded diplomas, seen graduates throw caps skyward and watch them depart—ready or not—to face the great unknown.

To the Patrons of Littlefield ISD: With the recent tragedy that took place in Uvalde, Texas, school safety is a topic that is a major concern for everyone in this country. There are many different thoughts and ideas out there regarding what needs to be done to combat this issue at hand.

Gunman walked into school building unopposed The gunman who killed 21 people inside a Uvalde elementary school walked into the unlocked building unopposed, the Department of Public Safety said in a revised statement, as reported by the Austin American-Statesman and other media sources. After the gunman crashed his grandmother’s truck in a ditch, he walked into the building while firing a semiautomatic weapon purchased just days after his 18th birthday.
