Robert Joe Montgomery, 75, of Lubbock, TX, formerly of Muleshoe, passed away on Friday, May 5, 2023.
Robert was born on Dec. 19, 1946, in Plainview, to Joe and Anne Montgomery. He married Sharon Bernethy on July 13, 1968, in Littlefield. In 1969 they moved to Amarillo, to attend West Texas State University in Canyon, and he began his banking career with The First National Bank in Amarillo. In 1977 they moved to Muleshoe, where he was employed by Muleshoe State Bank. He retired in 2013 but remained on the Board of Directors until 2017. They moved to Lubbock in October 2012.
Robert was very active in civic in Muleshoe. He was President of Muleshoe Chamber of Commerce for two years and they honored him as Man of the Year in 1993. He was Mayor of Muleshoe for eight years, from 1992-2000. He received the Distinguished Service Award at the Bankers Agriculture Credit Conference for his loyal and dedicated service to the commercial banking profession in 2008.
The family is not currently planning a memorial service. In lieu of flowers the family has designated Hospice of Lubbock to donate in memory of Robert.
