James P. Arnold was born in McKinney, Texas in 1934. His family moved to Amarillo, Clovis, and Tucumcari, NM, before settling in Sudan, Texas.

After graduating from Sudan High School, James joined the Air Force in 1952. Trained as a radio operator, he was stationed in Austin, TX, Buloxi, MS, Bangor, ME, and Tripoli, North Africa.

Returning home, he enrolled at Texas Tech, transferred to Hardin-Simmons, graduating in 1959 and earned his BBA degree. James then attended Southwestern Baptist Seminary in 1962 earing his Master of Divinity, and in 1963 is Master of Religious Education.

Rev. Arnold pastored churches in Rosston, Summerfield and El Paso. He entered Clinical Pastoral Education at Baptist Memorial Hospital in San Antonio from 1969-1971. He was the Director of Pastoral Care at Northeast Baptist Hospital in San Antonio for four years. James became the Pediatric-Adolescent Chaplain at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, IL and was there for nine years. He obtained his Doctor of Ministry at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary in 1989. Rev. Arnold developed and led the Pastoral Care Department at All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg, FL (now Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital) from 1984 until his 1997 retirement. Moving to Georgetown in 1998, he worked in the Golf Shop at Southwestern University (the best retirement job ever!) and volunteered in the Food Pantry at the Caring Place.
