April 23, 1939 ~ March 3, 2022
Raymon Hudson Cantrell, 82, of Amherst went to be with his Lord, Thursday, March 3, 2022, at his home. He was born April 23, 1939, in a home in Runnels County, Texas, to Raymon Cantrell and Eula Mae (Bryan) Cantrell.
Hudson married his high school sweetheart, Joy Long, on August 11, 1961, at the First Baptist Church in Amherst. Shortly after marriage, he was drafted and proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army. After discharge, he began working for GTE in Hobbs,
New Mexico, and worked there until he transferred to Littlefield, Texas. Hudson worked for GTE for 34 years before retiring. Hudson loved to work with his hands, which is demonstrated by his dedication to being an expert gunsmith. He also appreciated the value of a sharp knife and could sharpen the blade to perfection.
He enjoyed gardening, fishing and doing puzzles. He was also an avid arrowhead hunter and could appreciate a West Texas dirt storm, because it made for prime conditions to locate the artifacts. He was locally famous for his hot sauce, and over the years made countless batches of it, mostly to just gift to others. He liked to go to the gin and play dominoes with the guys, going to the lake to be with friends, and even helping his son-in-law on the farm. He was a great storyteller, especially of old harvest tales. Most of all, Hudsonloved his family, especially being a grandad.
