Maria 'Mary' Galaviz

Maria "Mary" Galaviz, 82, of Amherst went to be with her Lord and Savior Monday, March 13, 2023, in Amherst. She was born January 30, 1941, in Kenedy, Texas to Antonio Cabrera and Ignacia Basaldua Cabrera. She married Jesus Galaviz April 28, 1962 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Littlefield.

Mary was a homemaker with a kind heart. She enjoyed sewing and collecting angels. She could often be found tending to her garden. She was a devout Catholic who attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church and loved the Lord. Most of all, Mary loved her family, she enjoyed spending time with them, she was a good mother, a great wife, and a wonderful grandma to her grandchildren.

Mary is survived by her husband, Jesus Galavis of Amherst; two sons, Rafael Galaviz and wife, Nora of Lubbock and Gabriel Galaviz and wife, Margie of Amherst; a daughter, Diana Erikson and husband, Karl of Spotsylvania, Virginia; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; four brothers, John Cabrera of Colorado, Ray Cabrera of El Paso, Texas, Alex Cabrera of Dallas, Texas and Jesse Cabrera of Clovis, New Mexico; and two sisters, Rosa Villa of Friona, Texas and Adele Cabrera of Virginia.

She was preceded in death by two daughters, Teresa Galavis and Gloria Rodin; and her parents, Antonio Cabrera and Ignacia Basaldua Cabrera.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, March 18, 2023 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Littlefield with Father Thomas officiating. Viewing and visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m., Friday, March 17, 2023 at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the personal care of Hillcrest Funeral Home in Littlefield.
