Lynn McDaniel, 93, of Amherst, passed away Thursday, March 7, 2019 in Lubbock. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, March 11, 2019 at Grace Chapel in Littlefield with Lloyd Stice officiating. Interment followed in Sudan Cemetery. Arrangements were under the personal care of Hillcrest Funeral Home in Littlefield.
He was born Jan. 23, 1926 in Sudan, TX to Wiley Ray McDaniel and Thelma (Mason) McDaniel. Before his 18th birthday, Lynn enlisted in the United States Navy. He served from Jan. 1944 until being honorably discharged April 1946. He was assigned to the USS Shangri-la, and fought on the Tinian Island during World War II. After being honorably discharged, he returned home and worked on the family farm. He married Nell Lee Nov. 17, 1955 in Clovis, NM. They made their home in Amherst, and were members of Amherst First Baptist Church. Lynn enjoyed tending to his yard, playing dominoes, and being with the coffee shop fellows.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Nell McDaniel of Amherst; two sons, Gary Lynn McDaniel and wife, Jenny of Wolfforth, and Michael McDaniel and wife, Tammy of Littlefield; four grandsons, Colby McDaniel and wife, Mary Beth of Richardson, TX, Caleb McDaniel and fiancée, Ashley Neely of Amarillo, Shane McDaniel of Heilbronn, Germany and Tyler McDaniel of Leander, TX; one great granddaughter, Olivia McDaniel; and a sister in law, Clara McDaniel of Lubbock.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Courtney McDaniel; his parents; four brothers, Kenneth, Dale, Bobby, and Curtis; and a sister, Laverne Ancinec.
