Barbara Joan Chatwell

Barbara Joan Chatwell, age 88, passed away on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, in Littlefield, Texas. She was born on December 7, 1936, in Petersburg, Texas to Arthur and Ruth Evitt.
Barbara graduated from Littlefield High School in 1955 and attended Texas Tech University for two years. She then graduated from Sul Ross State University with a bachelor's in education. Barbara served her Texas community as a dedicated elementary third grade teacher for a total of 33 years. Her career began in Alpine, and then in Faben. However, she spent 30 years of her career teaching at Amherst School where she developed strong relationships with her students and peer educators. In 1972, she married Dr. JW Chatwell in Juarez, Mexico.
Barbara loved her family and enjoyed spending her holidays hosting at her home. She was a natural born caretaker and generously dedicated her time and energy to her family. She was a wonderful "Grandma" and "GiGi" who cherished the time she got to spend with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was an expert domino player and enjoyed playing with her friends and family.
Those left to honor Barbara's memory are her two granddaughters, Nikki Brumfield of Littlefield, Texas, and Selina Brumfield of Dallas, Texas; two great grandchildren, Ryan Williams, and Madison Williams both of Littlefield, Texas: and a sister-in-law, Mary Evitt of Lafayette, Louisiana.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. JW Chatwell; a son, Dr. Monte Pierce; a daughter, Kimberly Chatwell; a brother, Wesley Wayne Evitt; a sister Billie Reese; and her parents.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 23, 2025, at Hillcrest Funeral Home's Grace Chapel with Pastor Tanner Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in Littlefield Memorial Park. A visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, June22, 2025, at the funeral home.
The Pallbearers will be Ryan Williams, Jude Martin, Brent Kennedy, Shaun Muller, Clint West and Monte Brewer.
