Jose ‘Joe’ Brito

Jose “Joe” Brito, 80, of Anton passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2022 in Levelland. He was born on February 11, 1941 in Robstown, Texas to Apolonio Brito and Concepcion Garza Brito.

Joe married Maria Garcia on August 9, 1965 in Hereford, Texas. He was a resident of Anton for the last 50 years and worked at American Cotton Growers for 33 years. He had a strong work ethic and was a hard worker, over the years he worked at the cotton gin building cotton trailers, did construction in Lubbock helping build Loop 289, and Pell Fence in Anton. Joe enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening, and barbequing with his family. He like watching old westerns, wrestling and boxing on TV. He was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Anton, where he helped with the Jamaica, and played the guitar and accordion. He was a talented musician who composed many of his own songs and could play almost any instrument, self-taught by ear.

He is survived by Maria Brito of Portales, NM; a daughter, Amy Marie Carrillo and husband, Polo of Portales, NM; two sons, Joe Brito, Jr. and wife, Angie DeLaFuente who was also Joe’s caregiver of Littlefield and Jessie Brito, Jr. and wife, Brenda of Littlefield; nine grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; and numerous extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; and four brothers.

Funeral Mass was held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Anton with Father Ernesto Lopez officiating. Interment followed in Anton Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Jessie Brito, Jr., P.J Carrillo, Adrian Carrillo, Christopher Brito, Cruzito Lovato and Orlando Lovato. Honorary pallbearers were Christen Brito, Julian Gallegos and Darren Amador. Rosary was recited Monday evening at the funeral home. Arrangements were under the personal care of Hillcrest Funeral Home in Littlefield.
