James Harold Couch, 86, of Shallowater and formerly of Olton, died Saturday, January 6, 2024, in Lubbock, Texas. The family received friends for visitation from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., Saturday, January 13, 2024, at The Haven, located at 502 8th St., in Olton, Texas. No services are scheduled at this time.

James was born May 18, 1937, in Littlefield, Texas, to Arthur Thomas and Minnie Lucille (Edwards) Couch. A 1955 graduate of Olton High School, James married Doreen Young in 1955. Three daughters were born to that marriage, Doretta, Lorenda, and Kayleen. In 1990, James married Dee Ann Wheeler and they were married over 33 years. James farmed in the Olton area for over 30 years and was involved in the American Agriculture Movement where he participated in the Tractorcade march to Washington D.C. James served on the Olton Coop Gin board of directors and was president for many years. After his time as a farmer, James became a small business owner where he owned and operated a cleaning service for over 20 years in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

James was a jack of all trades and could do anything, including weaving scarves. He enjoyed camping, riding dirt bikes, and fishing in the mountains.
